Of course your selection can be from this list. My point is this, I don't think any one coach is dominating everyone else. Too many things have to happen to deliver a National Championship. It's looking like the SEC West is going to take another big jump in quality coached teams this year. What strikes me is how small this list is. So anyone want to take a gander on who the best coach is? Mark Richt Steve Spurrier Urban Meyer Nick Saban, Phillip Fulmer Tommy Tubberville Les Miles Pete Carroll Jim Tressel Bob Stoops Rich Rodriguez Frank Beamer
Best pure coach... I'd go with Rich Rodriguez... he's getting really good things done with less talent. Hell he wiped the floor with Richt in his first BCS game with much, much less talent. I think his players are really well coached. I know he still has lost some games, but its not because he's out coached.
Bob Stoops has OU winning tons of games every year, and they've been to the NC game 3 times in recent history. How many trips the Big 12 title game? Can't argue with his record.
As a pure coach... I don't think so. He surrounds himself with great coordinators (like Miles) and is good at making his players feel comfortable while still being an authority figure. Just look at their offense now that Norm is gone. And with Orgeron gone, I can't say that their recruiting has taken a hit... but USC recruits itself.
Not sure about that. You put any great team against another in the NC game, and almost anything can happen. Your chances of losing go way up. Year in and year out OU is capable of winning the Big 12. :geaux:
If the question had been asked who is the best X's & O's coach, I would have responded differently. I view the head coach of the programs listed as equivalent to the CEO of a corporation. I'll admit I don't follow USC that closely but has there been that big of an offensive drop of since Chow left? Obviously they suffered this year when Booty was injured.
I'm not saying he's a bad coach... I'm saying I have seen him out coached in numerous games. There is a difference between being out coached... and loosing because your team failed to perform or you were young and inexperienced.
