I've been wondering for a few weeks now, "What do I really expect from LSU football?" What would satisfy me, because I haven't felt satisfied all season. I've heard people say "LSU fans are ridiculous, they are never satisfied. We are winning games, what more can you want?" I like getting the W, but I would feel more satisfied with a well played loss because at least you could say you gave it your best shot. When has this team given it their best shot? Mistakes abound. Our offense is unnacceptable. We coach not to lose but expect the players to play to win. I want LSU to play up to its potential, I want LSU to execute the fundamentals and play hard. Is Russell holding us back, or is it the coaches? Is it the receivers? Talent isn't everything, character is something that comes into play on Saturdays. I've been so frustrated all season because I haven't seen a complete game yet. Some fans are immersed in the dream of playing for a National Championship, but we aren't a dominant team. If our offense continues to suck I won't be satisfied even if we do win the NC. I'll be happy, just like I was about the win over Auburn, but I expect more from the offense. Where is the consistency. Jimbo has proven nothing to me, our offense has been nothing more than average during most of his tenure. Maybe you have to give some credit to the strength of our opponents, but the other top teams have all posted impressive wins against strong opponents. Where is our statement win? At least the defense has looked good, even giving up a large mass of yards to that Auburn back. It has done enough, without much aid from the offense. LSU should cream North Texas and Appalachian St.
The flip side of this is that really good teams FIND a way to win even when they are not playing well. I'll take a sloppy win over an L any day. I think we are all waiting and wondering if this team is going to put it all together in a single game against a quality opponent. I thought it was going to be against Florida. Becoming a team is a process and this team had a rough start at the beginning of the season. Frankly, I just as soon see them begin to peak at the end of the season. Go Tigers !
Good post, I agree with most of what you said. I was looking for LSU to improve on what they showed against Vandy and Mississippi St, but it has become apparent that LSU hasn't found an identity yet. I'm really frustrated with our offense, and honestly I didn't feel much different when Saban was here. Pellini may not be Saban, but he appears to still be a strong coach. Of course, we are loaded with talent. The thing that kills me is that we have offensive talent, we just can't get any production. What is the problem? I would love to see LSU get things together, but I am not satisfied with where we are at as a team. We can lay some of the blame on the hurricane, but I don't think that is a sufficient out for all of our offensive woes.
When I think of LSU offense in recent years, I think of Rohan in his last year. I remember what a break out year that was for him. All those great plays w/Reed. I think that we have to remember that this is Russell's first year as a starter. I think Russell will be very good before his tenure is over. He is so young. Also, I think we really miss Alley. You have to give Russell credit. He finds ways to win. I also was more concerned about our defense which I feel much better about now. We must maintain a good defense to compete in this league.
In the end our record is all that matters to me. I always want us to play to almost perfection but I do not become dissatisfied with a win although I was close to that vs Troy last year. Now, I would love to see us come out and dominate on offense and defense for 60 minutes, but that doesn't effect my overall feelings towards the team or make me feel down. Soe folks just look at it different ways I guess. I'll never, ever feel that way. Ever. Ever. Ever. We could take about 150 wins out of the record book if that were the case. And I believe this team has given it their best shot in every game this season. There is a big difference in playing hard and making mistakes I think although I know some willl disagree. By the way, would you have rather loss the Sugar Bowl in 2003 or wished the offense played well in a loss?
I expect to play for the SECC, especially this season. With this talent, anything less would be cause for serious concern with this staff.
Yes. How dare the LSU coaches allow other SEC coaches to assemble teams that could possibly beat us. Unacceptable. I will revolt!!
