"New Jersey's Corzine Proposes Budget That Cuts Jobs

Corzine proposed eliminating the departments of personnel, agriculture and commerce. His budget also includes almost $1.4 billion of cuts to property-tax rebates, municipal aid, higher education, hospital assistance and Medicaid. Residents earning more than $150,000 would no longer be eligible for rebates.

Corzine said his 2009 budget contains no new taxes and that it accommodates $550 million in additional school aid that was approved by the Legislature last month. Debt service will increase in this budget and will continue to rise ``unless we do something different,'' Corzine said.

``It's clear that increasing debt payments crowd out other important priorities every year,'' he said. ``Fixing the budget problem without addressing debt reduction is a fiction, and if we try to do that, we are misleading the public.''

Corzine seeks to end chronic deficits, pay down half the state's $32 billion debt and fund roadwork for 75 years. Debt payments consume 7 percent of this year's budget, while the state fund for road projects is due to run out of money in 2011.

hey if you do a little research, we just did the same thing here in florida with the property tax reform, that will have thousands of people losing their jobs and a lot of education cuts.

Oh by the way we have a Republican governor.

I understand why you posted it but I am just showing you the parallel.
Those who are losing their jobs, county and city employees. Police and Fire funding will be cut, many things like this. I would love to pay less property taxes, but not at the expense of people losing jobs and education cuts.
My believe is to never cut education spending.

two...one: What education spending? You mean that $32,000 my son earns trying to teach ill raised 7th graders who have never received an ounce of discipline in their lives and have no fear or respect for any level of authority? I sent my sons to private school on my nickel, so I'm not aware of any education spending by anyone but me.

Well sounds like your son chose to be in that field and maybe he chose the wrong field to be in, not my fault.
Also, you are going to make the whole suffer for the few that are not taking advantage of the opportunity of public education. You dont cut education spending because of that, we dont have a 100% dropout rate. Also, everyone cant afford to send their kids to private school, I have 3 sisters and 1 brother, that was in a 2 parent home with good jobs, they didnt have the money to send us to private school, but we all got a good education and was never on any public assistance. Sabanfan, I like you and think you are smart, but that wasnt a well supported retort.:thumb:

He was a history major and there's not much else to do with that degree. He's just a little disillusioned by the lack of parental supportand absolute lack of any discipline by most kids.

I didn't advocate cutting the spending, just that I was unfamiliar with it.

I coudn't afford it for my first son, but I made it happen. Tried public school for a while and was ending up with a crack addict (literally).

It was off the cuff. :thumb:

Saban, you are right about many things in this post, for one the public school system is broken mainly in the inner city areas, but alot of areas, because of politics, on both sides democrats and republicans, I am not so blind to realize the shortcomings of my party and myself for that matter.

I was going to be a history major myself, because I love history, but then i didnt know what to do with it.

I went to some pretty good public schools all of them being magnet programs, but the system is screwed up and lets blame the parents as well, I got my azz beat when I was a kid and that just doesnt happen anymore, i dont understand it.
