Anybody here watch the West Wing Debate ?

I thought it portrayed the different thinking of the 2 parties pretty well.

It comes down to Democrats believe that government can help people and should help people solve society problems.

Republicans believe that let people keep their money and let them decide how to spend it and the marketplace will solve most problems.

I think the truth is somewhere in between.

Great episode but me an my wife were discussing and we both agreed they should have done a second hour follow up as a regular episode. Just like real campaigns do with the spin doctors.

never seen that show, but i am suprised they potrayed republicans so well.

in poli 101, they teach that the question you can ask to most accurately separate reps and dems is:

do you think the government should do more to help people?

I think that pretty much sums it up. It's the cycle of dependency that for the most part liberals want. They speak of "helping people" but mainly it's done in the guise of keeping people dependent on them for everything thereby ensuring them votes. Because if it was meant to really help people, I can't find one thing from the "Great Society" that has actually helped people. Poor people depending on the "Great Society" programs are still poor and uneducated and they hand it down to their family....a cycle.
