Randall was put in a very tough situation in 2002. Of course he wouldn't perform that well in his first couple games. It was in the middle of the SEC schedule! But remember how well he played against Ole Miss? SEC Offensive player of the week I believe. And how well he played against Arkansas? The fact we lost that game overshadowed his performance in it. Even against Texas he played pretty well, but I think he got injured during the game, plus Texas was an all around better team. But this season I think we will be just fine with Randall. He won't lose the game for us (a lesson he learned against Auburn in 2002) which is all we ask of our QB, and our defense will be even better than last year's. He is a better runner than Mauck and I think we will have more option type plays this year. However, my main concern with Randall is his fumbling. As long as he doesn't fumble! And learns to be a better pocket passer. Which I hope is what he works on this summer. :geaux: :champs:
I actually do have some faith in Randall. If he some how beats out Russell to be our starter then he must of improved a lot because I doubt Saban will play the wrong QB. As for a better runner than Mauck that is true but he's not as good as a passer as Mauck but he still has some time to learn. I can't wait to find out who our guy is going to be!:geaux:
Mauck became a better all around qb after he got hurt in the fla. game. He learned to stay in the pocket and read the D. and think before scrambling. MR will get us through the season just fine if he, 1)knows the playbook like he says he does, 2)executes the plays like they are given to him by Jimbo and doesn't freelance, 3) doesn't freeze like a deer in the headlights when the play collapses and looks for the 2nd and 3rd recievers. MR has all of the athletic abilities needed, it is the ability to make the right split second decisions that we will need from him this year. MR, if you read this board,I think you can do it. See you in Miami!!!!!!
That remains to be seen. I will give Randall the benefit of the doubt, if he starts. I have faith that Saban will make the right decision, and I agree that we only need a qb to protect the ball and make a few good passes from time to time. I'm not gonna go as far as to say that we WILL be in Miami (like some delusional fans around here), but I think we'll be just fine with whoever is chosen to start. :geaux:
Not sure how you could say we "should" be fine with Randall after watching him stuggle mightily in the Spring Game. Had it not been for that long TD pass to Bowe, there would have been no positives to take from his performance. He won't last past the 3rd game.
True, but you can't make rash judgements based off of a spring game. They've only been practicing like 3 weeks. I believe Mauck didn't look too good last year either in the spring game.
