Do you, SDM? The Aggies just thought they needed to fire him; they've been suffering ever since (though I don't think he'd have ever brought them a NC.)

Sure, I remember Jackie Sherrill before that and I also attended LSU vs Texas A&M game in 1987.
Lets just sat that RC Slocum beat us a few times.

    Bad Karma, wouldn't you say?
LSU and Nebraska also come to mind though on this subject.
LSU let Charles McClendon go and Nebraska let Frank Solich go.
Makes you wonder if Pelini will be able to turn it around?
Maybe they'll just have a few more years of suffering?:)

Put simply...aggressive, blitzing, knock your dick in the dirt defense is what I what to see. I don't care if Martha Stewart is the DC.

I want to see that also. Pressure is the name of the game. If you beat me than hats of to you. I'm not going to sit back and let you pick apart my secondary. Hit the qb from the time you get off the bus until you get back on the bus!

I thought Will Muschamp was still at AU, but now I see that he went to UT. That sucks. It was almost as fun watching him and his emotions during the game than it was watching the defense.

Then again, it's possible that he was more of a product of Saban's D scheme.

Why do we keep talking about the past?

Bottome line: clearly the "Pelini Scheme" doesn't work without Pelini. No matter how well our defense has been in the past, our defense THIS YEAR is in the tank despite the fact that we've played two of the worst offenses in the SEC and two OOC cupcakes.

Our offense is good, but when you can't stop the other team you can't win the game.

If this continues, we will become the Saints of the SEC...good, but not good enough.

I don't think we have enough data to make that determination yet but if it sure looks like we are headed toward that conclusion. I still think that a lot of it has to do with so much youth in the secondary and the dual DCs working out the kinks of the new system.

We've all seen players come and go...new blood doesn't explain why they are ligning up ten yards off the opposing receivers or why we're not seeing any blitz packages worth talking about. It doesn't explain why the DE's (Rahim Alem in particular) didn't attack Tebow on those option plays against Florida.

They are playing way too soft and that has nothing to do with new talent. This is simply a scheme issue. So far, I haven't even seen Pelini's scheme...only some half-azzed, watered-down version of it.

Well, honestly I found Pelini's scheme to be a bit too soft for my liking. I am not in favor of the "read and react", and prefer a more aggressive style. I like to see stunting linemen, disguised blitzes from LBs, CBs, and Safeties. I also prefer to see our corners jam receivers at the line. I think we have the speed at those positions to do that, and am not sure why we don't.

In 2006 our turnover ratio was poor but improved immensely last year. This year it is down again.

I can't recognize if the co-DCs are on different pages or running a demure version of Bo's defense, but I do think there is a definite problem with timing. The play/players need to be set with greater alacrity. Too many times in the Florida game did I see players with their heads turned away when the ball was snapped.

If the players are confused about their assignments, late play calls sure are not helping it. Drastic improvements need to be made or changes need to be made.

I'd love to see sacks, bone crushing hits, and picks every series. That's obviously more entertaining for a fan but it's not realistic. If you go balls to the wall every play opposing OCs can easily adjust and exploit that with misdirection, screens, mismatches, etc. You have to have balance and unpredictability. I think Bo's defense had that. He kept opposing offense off balance because the never know what to expect and it seemed like LSU anticipated their every move. Our current D does not have that feel right now. Is it because of the coaching, the players, communication? I don't know...There is so much we don't see going on. The game with in the game with in the game. What I wouldn't give to be a fly on the wall in the film room.

Beginning of a decline or a bump in the road? I guess it could go either way but I do know this, Miles has met and exceeded every expectation I've had. Right now I'm more than willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he will handle the situation.
