The question is somewhat skewed. Just because the schemes work with Pelini doesnt mean it will work now with Peveto/Mallory. We arent seeing the adjustments being made that Pelini normally made. Although since mid way last year the LSU schemes on D have been consistently been exposed. So there is some merit to questioning the system. I dont think the Co DC thing has worked out. Im not seeing any adjustments or any signs of improvement from the D. If anything Im seeing regression. That said, I think its a work in progress so lets see what happens the rest of the season.

Personally, I like a more aggressive D. I accept getting burned once and a while if the blitz is picked up or what not. But I prefer that than being methodically being picked apart and still giving up big plays here and there like Florida did to LSU. When the DL isnt getting pressure you have to blitz to scare the QB. I dont care who your DBs are, WRs will get open in time if given all day. I think that would help protect our young secondary more so than leaving them out to dry like Ive seen thus far this season. I think Peterson should get more PT. McCray should not be covering any WR nor should Beckwith. No matter how you look at it, but when mismatches like those consistently happen then there is something wrong with the coaching and schemes.

The scary thing is we have played one offense all year that was worth a crap
and we have one of the worst ranked defenses in the sec.
Give me a defense that is agressive and attacks any day over one that seems to be more of a read and react.

Not willing to say yet. We knew we'd be you in the secondary and LB.

On the other hand, does the coordinator duty take away from the position coaching, so the young kids get less?

The defense is definitely not as good as last year, but I didn't expect it to as good as last year, with all the inexperience. Are your expectations too high?

I say give it a few more games, need more info.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by this.
My biggest problem is that some are acting like the sky is falling after 1 loss.
Everything I've said here is true from people comparing Miles to Dinardo.
Actually I think it is quite rediculous but also hillarious.
But we can also agree that our defense was #3 in the country last year and the year before that.
We can also agree that injuries did hurt our defense last year.
The poster above made it sound like our defense wasn't very good and I just pointed out with all the issues we were #3 in the country in that category.
    Terrible example, I disagree.
I don't watch many of their games but WVU couldn't beat Pitt last year.
That must be the most under-achieving team and QB, he's suppose to be great, lost this year to Colorado.
I think thats why RR went to Michigan.
I never said I was against blitzing a little more.
The bottomline is that we won against Florida last year, the Gators and Mr. Heisman lost 3 games last year.
We had beaten Florida something like 3 out of 4 years before Saturday.
Under Pelini we haven't lost any games on last second hail marys, NO.
You pretty much make my argument for me here though I would also agree that blown coverages happen with either scheme.
If we were playing Saban's defense these young guys in the secondary would have blown some coverages too.
We can agree to disagree, no way we go undefeated last year.
The problem with trends is that it doesn't take into account for injuries.
It also doesn't take into account that our defense has been #3 in the country the last 2 years.
It also doesn't take into account that our defensive secondary is pretty much all new guys.
With trends you are expecting new defensive guys to play like veterans?

I will acknowledge that I don't think its a good idea to not have one person totally responsible for the defense.
I will also say that without Pelini I'm not totally sure his scheme will work here, that remains to be seen.
I just think its a little insane for people to panic after one loss and one bad game.
This is a rebuilding year, LSU fans seem to think or ignore the fact that you can't always plug guys in like last year and win.
It does concern me that there seems to be more questions than answers but that happens "sometimes" during a rebuilding year, see
    2004.

I agree with Houtiger above btw, shouldn't jump to conclusions just yet.

I think you and I agree on more than we think. I hope you are right and I am wrong!

Wow, Tulane's defense is ranked above LSU's currently...

I wouldn't mind the Saban defense. Maybe we can get him as our DC?

Or how about R.C. Slocum as DC? He's not working, and he definitely had a good defense. I'm sure he'd be uninterested.
