"We get USC vs Oklahoma in the Nokia Sugar Bowl and that is what we want" quote from Trev...at least he admits it now...the media WANTS usc vs ou it's a conpsiracy folks also, both trev and mark said FACT when asked if Georgia would beat LSU this weekend...but we knew that would happen
Yeah, everyone's answer is that the BCS always works itself out (conveniently forgetting 2001 when Oregon should have gone instead of Nebraska) by saying that LSU will lose this weekend. They also talk about how 'crazy things happen last week of the season.' Yet, when it comes to the media, it's completely out of the question that USC could POSSIBLY lose to Oregon State. I would love for THAT to be the reason it all 'works itself out.'
Trev is getting exactly what he wants---Georgia fans tuning him in to listen to him praise their Bulldogs. And LSU fans tuning him in to see what else he can say to piss off the Tigers. Let him and anyone else say whatever they want, when LSU takes care of their business, he will be the one with egg on his face, and then he will start some other controversy to keep viewers tuned in. THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS IS THE TIGER'S PLAY ON THE FIELD.
I disagree about the Ore/Neb thing. Ore played a weak OCC and SOS, while Neb completely ran through everybody except Colo. Anyway you cut it, Ore had the support of the media and bandwagon college football fans, but the numbers didn't lie that year . . . Neb was the better football team, Ore had the better passing QB. It is all personal opinion here, and no one is wrong, I just felt then (and still do today) that the ORE program was over-rated and the Neb program underappreicated that season. I believe we are in this position now because of Ore, and all the bitching they did. They changed the BCS to help teams like Ore out, teams in weak BCS conferences. Of course ABC wants a SC/Okla Sugar because that will give the highest ratings. Like ND, people across the country have an opinion about SC. Love them or hate them, they are considered to be an all time college football powerhouse. That is not to say that LSU isn't, but SC's 8 NCs are the legend the current SC team is living off of.
Actually, until this season, I really had no opinion about USC. As far as Nebraska/Oregon that year, I didn't follow the top as closely as I am this year, so I don't know who was more deserving. What I do know is that it was controversial.
DarkHornet, I follow college football more on a national level since I graduated from LSU and since then I have moved around the country getting to see a lot of football, other than only the SEC or other top programs. I don't claim to be an expert, but I follow college football the way other fans seem to follow pro. I watch games all day Sat, and after a few years of it I have built opinions of different confreneces and teams. For 6 years I have been on the West Coast, with the last 3 being here in LA. We have a pretty large LSU alumi chapter out here, so I get to stay in touch with transplanted fans and get hit up for money on a monthly basis. I also have to face PAC 10 fans everyday, and hear all about how the PAC 10 gets shafted. This is just my opinion, but while it was controversial you had every talking head in the nation saying that ORE should go because they play a more exciting brand of football. Joey Hiesman was actually hyped more than Eli, if you can believe it. It is also true Neb lost their last game of the year, but all season long Neb tore teams apart playing the exact kind of D we are playing this season. Ore was outscoring teams by 3 and 4 points, but winning on closing drives and turnovers late in the game. I remember the Ore/Ore st game very well, and Ore St had that game all wrapped up until late turnover and poor play calling. That said, Ore was a very good team but not on the same level as Neb. They were making all the claims SC is making now: East Coast bias, unfair bias of the PAC 10, and that they just play a more exciting brand of football. It was somewhat questionable of which team was more deserving, but NEB had the numbers and the dominating performances. Ore had the media and bandwagon fans, wanting to see if Joey Hiesman could throw for 400, score 44 pts and win by 3. NEB ended up losing, and ever since the media has been looking for ways to make it up to the PAC 10. To this day I still feel the Big 12 and SEC are the hardest conferences in the country. Not only is recruiting harder in the midwest and south (because of all the competition), but the teams are just more sound. The SC "love them or hate them" must be a generation sort of thing. When I was groing up, SC was a very good team who was known for winning NCs and Heismans.
