not turning the ball over to OU and giving them 14 pts. It probably is a better indication of just how good the D was this year that the "O" put them in many, many difficult situations. We had 15 ints and 12 fumbles this year. That's about 2 TO's/ game. Incredible that we did what we did. Just for comparison's sake, OU had 11 int's and 6 fumbles lost, USC had 9 int's and 13 fumbles lost. Also interesting that LSU had by far more penalties than the other 2. LSU 102 for 845 yds. OU 86 for 673 yds and USC 69 for 634 yds. Think it overall points to the fact that our "D" was the horse we rode this year, I know big revelation. All stats from sportsline.com
OU with 150 yds and 0 pts at the end would have looked very impressive. Remember they were the end all be all this year, highest scoring yada yada yada. Holding them to 0 or 3 pts, which we could have would have been very impressive. 21-14 makes it look close, which it should never have been. Their only sustained threat was 4th quarter and we held them out then. I'd just like to see fewer TO's and fewer penalties next year. It's like free throw shooting in Bball. If LSU shoots 75% at the line this year, I guarantee they'll be in just about every game and win the majority. If we turn over less and get penalized less we'll give ourselves that much better chance to succeed. FL penalties killed us, along with FL.
IF we could have changed the mind of just 16 voters we would have had a tie score with USC in the AP if my calculations are correct. Just 16, that's only 1/3 of the # who voted them #1. Could have happened.
Ditto Unfortunately, only by going undefeated do you make it air tight! No team in the country went unscathed this year before heading into the BCS.
