Have been watching WDSU Channel 6 online and they just showed video of people looting....Damn, that makes me absolutely sick....no wonder people won't leave their homes or businesses...these looters should become part of the levee system :angryfire
I say, maybe look the other way if a displaced person is commandeering some food or water or even some dry clothes in an emergency like this. But if they are hauling off TV's and DVD's then kneecap every one of them. Then in a couple of weeks when the jails dry out, convict everybody in town with gunshot wounds to the knees of looting.

I like the idea of martial law in Jefferson Parish, but the official word is that they're arresting people on site, if they are wandering around. With no power and a/c, water everywhere, what else is one going to do? And how would you know about the martial law?
Doesn't matter. They ordered complete evacuations. The presumption is one of "if you're here and not emergency personnel, you're a looter." Don't have time to ask, "Hey buddy, why in the blue hell are you walking around a disaster zone?" Arrest beats getting shot.
That is right up there with something I read yesterday that went something like: "They think the looting is bad now, wait till they let those people out of the Superdome"
That was said with tongue firmly in cheek, as people who know me know I heavily enjoy the rap music that used to come out of the Calliope, 3rd Ward, and Magnolia projects. Still, it can't be good for the furthering of race relations here in South Louisiana. Actual racists will watch that on TV and say "Look at all of the jigs stealing and robbing. It's in their character".
