"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." - John Stuart Mill
i went to a peace rally in new york, and the point you are making was completely lost on everyone there. many of the guys i talked to claimed that you should never go to war under any circumstances. i was dumbfounded that people who were neither retarded nor monkeys thought that way. some of these people actually said it was wrong to go to ww2 and kill hitler, because when you kill a killer you become no better than the killer yourself. i asked them how many people saddam would have kill before we should kill him, and they said we should never kill anyone. i couldnt believe it. it made me wonder how many times i would have to punch the guy in the face before he punched my face back and made me stop. people sometimes realize that war is bad, then stop their rational thinking and refuse to acknowledge that there are ever times when is it necessary. they understand that war sucks, but that is the extent of their understanding.
Tell those peaceniks that by not killing the killer they are responsible for allowing the killer to continue to kill, making them just as guilty as the killer for the killers future murders. Martin, you don't sound like the type who goes to peace rallies. What were you doing, scoping out the babes?
