had no idea they embarrassed PITT like that. I just have my doubts as to if that kind of offense will work in a blitz crazy conference... who knows? we'll find out soon.
It's an impressive looking offense the way it was run at Utah and BG, and the talent level he has now is relative to the talent he had there (vs. the competition)...so if they execute I have little doubt it'll be successful. Like anything though, he'll find some plays/formations are less/more successful than others in this league - and he's very bright so he'll adapt. I think their OL will be blown up more often in the SEC than he had happen at Utah..that'll affect his ability to call those inside draws/fake option runs imo. It all comes back to the QB like most teams..if he can execute the passes they'll move the ball. I noticed their defense was very swarming/active...often times more than 4 players were arriving at the ball at the same time. I think Beaux's defense this year will look similar to that once the ball has been identified. I expect a lot of turnovers from hard hits/strips.
The Big East was sorry last year. However, the whipping BYU took from the Utes spoke of the Utah attack. Gee, I wonder if the SEC defenses will be as clueless as the MWC was. I'm not sure if any SEC coach has seen a spead offense before or a team willing to throw the ball around like that. And the defense, oh, my! Has there ever been an SEC defense that moved like that! It started off as a slick video, then vocals kicked in. Urban's gonna find the SEC is a just wee bit tougher than Texas a$m, Pitt, or the MWC. Much like I did when the vocals started on this highlight, Urban will start to scream STOP early on. "Urban Warfare" will shown to a be another urban myth.
That's great. Now, if they had Alex Smith at QB--or any talented QB who actually had experience running this offense--I'd be shaking in my boots. Since they have neither this year, they're a lock for at least 2 losses. Within 2 years or so, however, with Florida's speed and Meyer's schemes, they'll be hell to play.
Have to admit, there were a lot of offensive plays that I thought were really great, to say the least. The "hook-n-ladder" play was run to perfection and I specifically like the double QB option--which is more like a triple option run from the shotgun, where Smith could pitch left, right or keep it. Thought those 2 plays stuck out the most, IMO.
