I'm a huge LSU fan but not among knowledgeable elite like islstl, tigereducated, and (grumble) even ramah....among others.

I'm from Lafayette and watched Kevin Faulk run all over everyone as a high school QB at Carencro and loved watching him while I was at LSU - 1994-99.

I'm suprised I haven't seen more comparisons between Vincent and Faulk. My initial impression is that Faulk was like a hybrid between Broussard and Vincent - he was quick but extremely powerful. Vincent seems like more of a finesse runner but seems equally potent as a future offensive weapon.

Am I wrong? Is one better than the other? Will only time tell? Let me hear your thoughts.

    hard to compare

Faulk was as a great running back. His shiftyness is what helped him so much.

Justin Vincent to me is a different back. He makes some plays look sooooo easy. He has mad finesse in my opinion and is just a natural.

I can't compare the too, except that they are both great backs.

I think we need to see Vincent start for a whole season before we can know his style for sure. He reminds me more of Dalton Hilliard right now.

i personally think Vincent is better. Faulk was very good, but rolled up a lot of yards against teams like idaho st..etc.. he didnt have that many great games against good teams (he did torch bama twice though).

you couldnt really count on Faulk to get that 3 and 2 or when you were on the goal line.

Faulk was more similar to Vincent than Broussard. Faulk wasn't that big and liked to make people miss as opposed to run through them. Broussard is more of a straight line runner that uses his size to break tackles for the extra yard. Vincent will juke you for an extra 5-10 until the next defender gets to him.

Faulk did get a little bigger his senior year but still couldn't run over defensive players. However, during that last year he didn't get much of a chance to show off his skills because we were horrible that year and always playing from behind.

Red, I also think Vincent reminds me more of Hilliard.

And I, too, think Vincent is better than Faulk--although I have nothing but love and admiration for that current Patriot/former Tiger. He came to LSU at a time when we needed a spark in the worst sort of way--and he was the first talented RB LSU had seen in years at that point.

Vincent also reminds me of Josh Reed in a way. Once Josh Reed caught the ball, he had a way of "stepping" away and making people miss. I see this same quality when Justin Vincent has the ball. JV is faster than JR though.

What I like about our RB's is we have both kinds of backs. Broussard will run your ass over like a mack truck. What is that guy? 6 foot and 230 lbs? That's deisel! Vincent has this look of gliding when he runs. It looks so effortless. These guys are only freshmen. That is scary.

When Faulk was a Freshaman and Sophomore, had the moves but lacked any power. I remember people grabbing him by the back of this shirt and throwing him to the ground like a rag doll. At that time, I really felt Rondell Meally was a better running back. Faulk was simply more versatile running, receiving, returns, etc.

Faulk was injured (minor but don't remember what it was) and Cecil Collins came in a played about 3 games. He had moves similar to Faulk, but could run over or through anyone when the time came. Faulk learned a lot from watching Collins those few games and got much stronger the last couple years.

Vincent is already at the point in his running that Faulk was when he left. He has the moves, but also can run for power if need be. He is an adequate receiver, when they throw to him. But with Henderson and Skyler returning punts and kickoffs, I don't know how he would be at that position. Maybe we find out next year when Henderson leaves.

It is a tough question. I'm biased toward Faulk, b/c he was the RB while I was at LSU. We need to see more of Vincent, and it is a huge plus that he is young.

What are we going to do at RB. Eventually one of these guys will want to be the full time starter, getting most of the carries. It might not happen next year, I can see Saban using the full group again (always having a fresh back in there). But what about after next year when these guys get older and will want more PT. It should be interesting to watch.
