I'm pulling for Tennessee this weekend against Notre Dame, but I think most people would agree that Tennessee will probably lose that game. Let's say Tennesseee loses to Notre Dame, and Vanderbilt beats Kentucky next week. That would put both teams at 5-5 going into the head-to-head season ender. How awesome would it be to see Vanderbilt knock off Tennessee to eliminate Tennessee from a bowl game this year, and at the same time clinch their first bowl game since the 80's?
In a scenario where we have absolutely no shot at the Rose Bowl no matter what, I'd love it. In a scenario where it ruins a shot at the National Title, I no like.
Got to work this morning and this is what I encounter. 1. Look in the paper and see that the White Sox won the World Series (I know, that was last week) 2. The Chicago Bears are in first place 3. It's 70 degrees in Chicago in November 4. A thread on TF about Tennessee and Vandy playing for a bowl game I don't know about everyone else, but I'm going to church this Sunday just in case this is a sign! :hihi:
Why? Because of our loss to Tennessee? In the computers it will mean nothing. With the humans, who knows? I personally think that they won't be looking at who lost to who if we are in a race with 1-loss teams. It will be only a matter of when we lost. In that realm, we are already in good standing. I personally don't believe there is ANY way that the Tennessee-Vandy outcome will affect our position for the Rose Bowl. The Tennessee-Notre Dame game, however, makes a big difference. That's why I'm pulling for Tennessee in that game. Well, that, and I really don't like Notre Dame.
Wouldn't it be a wash since we beat the snot out of Vandy, especially since they would have similar records?
yes, the outcome of vandy/tn is meaningless. however root for them like heck against ND, which will hurt USC and help us.
I'll be there in person tomorrow! There are "orange" people all over downtown Chicago this morning. I told them that they are miles from the closest woods, but they just looked confused.
There are only two ways it could affect us. 1) Strength of Schedule. As was stated above, we've played both, so that is a wash. 2) Public Perception in the polls. This could come back to bite us, but I really don't think it will hurt as much as many think. Losing later in the season (which is what would need to happen to several teams if we were to catch them) is a MUCH worse thing for whatever reason with the human voters. I think we will be fine. Anyway, this thread was NOT intended to be about LSU's Rose Bowl chances, it was intended to play what if in a situation that would be really fun to watch.
I always pull for Vandy except when we play 'em. I like the smart guys. Screw the rockytop coonpooches. I hope they lose 'em all. Go Commode doors. :hihi:
