Some of you may recall that I have a colleague (actually, the manager of an office that my team audits) in San Francisco, who is a USC alumnus. Heres the latest string of emails: SF: I love the media and pollsters. LSU beats VT like a drum (9th ranked with the best D in the nation 2 years running and 9 starters back,) holds MTSU to less than 100 yards after they put up over 500 on Louisville while So Cal gives up 31 points and 400+ yards to #16 (and overrated) Nebraska. Result? USC is da bomb and gains back some of the votes they lost last week. If LSU gave up 31 to any team, I'd demand they be dropped 3 spots. Condom fan: Once again blinded by bayou bias. Let's inject some reality into the discussion. 1) USC plays in the toughest conference in the nation (I know you are saying oooooooooooooooooooooooookay right now, but look at the number of Pac 10 top-25 schools; 2) It was 49-17 (and we gave them a short field for one TD) and our 3rd string gave up two meaningless late TD's while playing prevent defense; 3) everyone knows that USC was the overwhelming choice for #1 going into the season, lsu gained a couple of votes while USC was on a bye week and once they saw us play on a national stage, realized their mistake. The GameDay boys; Fowler, Herbstreit and Corso are all in agreement on that. Lsu has played nothing but overrated patsies so far this year (Va Tech at home. They've already changed their QB. Lsu hasn't played a team with an offense yet. Let's see, Middle Tenn, they're a perennial doormat. Miss St, Croom gets his fifth SEC win in four years this past weekend and a VT team that scores 17 at home against East Carolina in one of the most emotional games they will ever play. They should have crushed EC, but were lucky to get to 17. Let's see what they do against Tim Tebow and Florida before we anoint them the greatest defense of all time. You may be hoping they ONLY drop three spots. SF: 1) USC plays in the toughest conference in the nation (I know you are saying oooooooooooooooooooooooookay right now, but look at the number of Pac 10 top-25 schools; You mean like UCLA who got demolished by Utah? Or Oregon State who was creamed by Cincinnati? SEC perennial doormat Kentucky beat top 10 ranked Louisville. This week there are 6--count 'em-- 6 SEC teams in the top 25 (5 of whom are ranked above your supposed juggernaut of an opponent, Nebraska). The Pac 10 has 3. 2) It was 49-17 (and we gave them a short field for one TD) and our 3rd string gave up two meaningless late TD's while playing prevent defense; 3) everyone knows that USC was the overwhelming choice for #1 going into the season, lsu gained a couple of votes while USC was on a bye week and once they saw us play on a national stage, realized their mistake. The GameDay boys; Fowler, Herbstreit and Corso are all in agreement on that. Excuses. If you have pride in your defense, there is no such thing as a "meaningless" touchdown. You think LSU has played their starters for 4 quarters every week? Our defense has their pads off by the start of the 4th quarter. What's the excuse for giving up over 400 yards? Of course everyone knows USC was the overwhelming choice for #1. They beat MICHIGAN in the Rose Bowl. Gameday Crew? Sorry, but they are nothing but a trio of Kool-Aid drinking fools. 3) Lsu has played nothing but overrated patsies so far this year (Va Tech at home. Virginia Tech had the #1 defense in the country the last 2 years. They have 9 returning defensive starters, 5 of whom will be 1st day draft picks next year. They were ranked 9th and are still ahead of Nebraska even after we embarrassed them on National TV. LSU is their only loss. Middle Tennessee? They put up 42 points and over 500 yards against a team most thought was in the NC race. Say what you will about Miss State's past, but they are vastly improved and LSU was their only loss. They scored 38 against Tulane and beat previously ranked Auburn at Auburn. USC beat Idaho 38-10. The Vandals got cornholed by Washington STATE this weekend. Wazzu scored 45, a TD more than "The overwhelming favorite for #1". 4) Let's see what they do against Tim Tebow and Florida before we anoint them the greatest defense of all time. You may be hoping they ONLY drop three spots. That's the only sensible statement you made. Indeed, we'll have to see what LSU can do against the 3rd ranked team in the country and defending National Champions(with 7 1st place votes. A formidable challenge, indeed. And you know what? To get to the NC game, we'll have to beat them twice. If USC gets by Cal on the road, they can rest their starters for 8 weeks. The only other possible test will be Oregon and they are not even good enough to beat UCLA and Cal. USC hasn't' faced a defensive test in 3 years. We're waiting. I'll update with what I'm sure will be more inane responses from the Trojan.
That's the type of California idiot I was accustomed to seeing daily in my ten years in San Diego. I don't know if it's the smog, the dope, or the bland food but they're really whacked out there. LSU just needs to win on the field because we'll never win with the media. Notre Dame royally sucks yet they'll still be on tv each week. Booty has looked very average yet they'll still tell us he's the front runner for the Heisman. UCLA gets blasted by a high school team yet the Pac-10 is the greatest conference of all time. It's typical Hollywood fantasy and most people believe it because tv said so. For those of you who have never visited California...trust me...it's not what Hollywood makes it out to be. For every good looking woman, there's a thousand butt ugly Janeane Garofalo type women. For every oasis they show you, there are thousands of square miles of desert. For every mansion, there are a thousand duplexes full of illegal aliens....and yes, for every good football team (USC), there are plenty who suck (UCLA, Stanford, San Diego State) but will be over-rated because they're from the "Golden State". No wonder people around the world hate the U.S. All they see is Hollywood and believe we're all like those idiots.
I think it's funny that he has the gall to accuse you of being biased when he contradicts the very system that has installed his team as #1. Step 1. have cake Step 2. eat it too This guy really doesn't deserve a response as he has obviously not watched any of the LSU games if he thinks either our starting O/D play the entire game. :dis: "Never argue with an idiot; they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience", Fur Later, Fur
I love how he bragged about all of the ranked PAC 10 teams, then SabanFan pointed out how the SEC has six.
Not if they keep imploding ala Tenn and Auburn (who were pretty much given as a down year in most SEC write-ups... but some how the national media missed this in their ranking criteria:shock: ). Glad that FL is earning keep and UK, littleUSC, and even (GF) Bama are playing up... All we need now is MSU to beat the high-power offense of WVU to put a squeeze on the Big LEast:lol:. Tall order but not impossible. Later, Fur
He has gone underground. Here's my attempt to flush him out: SF: What? No response? Let's examine further the notion that USC should be the "overwhelming favorite for #1" shall we? From NCAA.Org, here are the up to date national statistical rankings: Rushing Offense: USC #6 LSU #17 Passing Offense LSU #43 USC #99 Total Offense LSU #18 USC #33 Rushing Defense LSU #3 USC #9 Passing Defense LSU #2 USC #99 Scoring Defense LSU #1 USC #45 Total Defense LSU #1 USC #41 Average National Statistical ranking: LSU #12 USC #37 Average Offensive Ranking: LSU #26 USC #46 Average Defensive Ranking: LSU #1.7 USC #48 Any questions?
:hihi: Condom Fan: Rankings only matter if you play the same teams. LSU has played three gimmes. We haven't. SF: No, you played 2 gimmes. Nebraska barely beat Wake Forest who is back in the ACC cellar. Every team LSU played would have a legitimate shot to beat Nebraska. Condom Fan: Not even you believe that SF: I'm serious. I watched USC-Idaho and USC-Nebraska. I watched Nebraska-Wake Forest and all 3 of LSU's games. I saw VT-ECU, MTSU-Louisville, and Miss State-Auburn. Have you seen any of these teams play or is your opinion based upon false perceptions? Neither Idaho nor Nebraska would have touched LSU for a score. Offensively, I'm guessing LSU would have put up at least 35 against both of them. No way Nebraska lights us up for 431 yards. 150, maybe. Middle Tennesse would have spread Nebraska all over the field and scored 28-35 points. They may not have won but they would have had a legitimate shot at it. Mississippi State would hold Nebraska under 21. Again, a realistic shot at a win. Virginia Tech would kill Nebraska. Idaho? How can you dis our opponents when you played a team who has Women's Soccer on the first page of their Athletic website and gave up 45 to perhaps the worst team in the Pac 10...and that, son, is saying something. Condom Fan: I saw all or parts of those games. Based upon personal observation, I respectfully dissent from your opinion. I have to admit, I did not go into Idaho's website. You really do your research. Know this, USC always plays a lot better the last three games than the first three. SF: Yeah. I saw that against UCLA last year. This is too easy.
