My apologies if this is posted already elsewhere, but here are updated comments and possible SoS scenarios this weekend: Winners USC LSU How LSU jumps USC BG, Syr, BSU 1.44 1.20 LSU would be #2 with 6 #2 computer rankings and no QW points M.OH,Syr, BSU 1.44 1.24 Same as above BG, Syr, Haw 1.28 1.20 LSU would be #2 with 6 #2 computer rankings and .1 QW points or 7 computer #2s BG, ND, BSU 1.32 1.24 Same as above M.OH,Syr, Haw 1.32 1.24 Same as above M.OH, ND, BSU 1.32 1.28 LSU needs all 7 computer #2 rankings BG, ND, Haw 1.16 1.28 USC would have to fall to 4th in 2 computers M.OH, ND, Haw 1.16 1.32 Same as above
Basically, we're better off with a Bowling Green win (remember, they are 10-0 at home, site of Thurs. game, though Miami won earlier this year by a comfortable margin). A BG win coupled with a Boise State win (of all three games, the closest thing to a lock you'll find since Boise is flat killing people these days) makes the outcome of Syr-ND irrelevant. A Miami win makes a Syracuse and Boise win necessary, 100%. A BG and ND win makes a Boise win necessary. A Miami and Syracuse win makes Boise-Hawaii irrelevant. One more maddening note, folks: if it all comes down to who wins Boise St and Hawaii, that game is played out in Honolulu and does not even start until, get this, 10:35 PM Eastern time! Personally, of all the combos listed above, I think a Bowling Green, Notre Dame and Boise St combo is most likely, which would bring it all down to that Hawaii late-night tilt. Yup, thousands of us might be scrambling to find a sports bar with satellites at 11 PM Saturday to see if we go to New Orleans and the Sugar Bowl. Insane, insane, insane.
The Boise St.-Hawaii game actually starts at 10:30 CENTRAL time. Here's a link which shows all games: http://www.nationalchamps.net/2003/sub/tv_listings/
Yeah, all the games that are important to LSU will be on TV. Sets up pretty well for a big Saturday. The biggest game this weekend of the three opponent games is the ND-Syracuse game since that is the one that decides the Colley Matrix computer.
Yeah I have this all posted in 1 neat and tidy spot on "LSU vs. USC for #2 in the BCS...". I borrow the SOS from Rich, and I have emailed him several times about different scenarios. In fact much of what he posts on his website is spurred on by the questions that I ask and the opinions I provide him. You had a few things slightly wrong Tejas. Syracuse winning is all we need. We win under all 4 possibilities if Syracuse wins. Also, if BG wins, then either Syacuse or Boise St. needs to win. It comes down to that. You said: "A Miami win makes a Syracuse and Boise win necessary, 100%." Actually a Miami win makes a Syracuse win necessary. Boise St. game is irrevalent, although Boise St. winning only strengthens our chances (i.e., we won't need the QW from Georgia).
Thanks. Hey, ask Bret to have that LSU vs. USC post made into a sticky post, if you haven't already. If I had seen it, I woudn't have posted this one.
That would be great. I have actually tried to post comments on this thread just to keep it at or near the top. Everyone needs to be educated. The BCS is too confusing otherwise.
THIS IS A TRULY EVIL SCENARIO, THERE MUST BE A FRIGGIN CONSPIRACY HERE AGAINST LSU: The winners ... THIS IS ALMOST A NO-BRAINER Miami Ohio(-7) They are gonna win!!!! Notre Dame(-3) I hate to say Notre Dame, they win ... big!!! Boise St(-9) will win!!!! Miami Ohio should get to the #3 spot in 1 computer poll and USC should end up with 17 points or 2.84 with a win over OSU. That results in the following point totals, not inclusive of QW pts: USC (2 + 2.833 (17/6) + 1 + 1.32 SOS + 0) = 7.16 LSU (3 + 2 (12/6) + 1 + 1.28 SOS + X) = 7.28 + X X = Georgia's BCS ranking after Saturday's game LSU MUST SOMEHOW GAIN -0.2 QW points for a #2 BCS ranking. Georgia must remain at #9 or better after a loss against LSU for LSU to gain -0.2 points and nip USC. THIS IS VERY LIKELY GONNA HAPPEN NOW, THE WILD PART!!! WHERE WILL A DEFEATED GEORGIA, CURRENTLY #7 BCS, BE MOVED TO? BCS Point Totals now are 7. GA 15.33, 8. FSU 18.44, 9. Tenn 20.37, 10. Miami 20.89, 11. Mia O 27.40, 12. Iowa 27.90 Will a beaten Georgia fall into the #10 spot behind Miami (FL)? This looks to be the case. Final score USC 7.16, LSU 7.18 Of course, if LSU gets one major poll, I'll be at the Royal Sonesta with about 6 gross of Mardi Gras beads enticing young lovelies to display their wares. The Question?????????????????????????????????????????????? Can Georgia lose only one or two spots in the BCS poll after a loss to LSU?
