I know it's best not to spread a rumor, but message boards are for rumors because there's usually some truth in a rumor. If the admins feel that this should be deleted, please delete it. But this is what I have heard.

This part is true: The skirmish originated after the game when LSU wide receiver Dwayne Bowe - from Miami - obtained one of the Hurricanes game footballs from a sideline ball boy, showing it off to Miami linebacker and friend Jon Beason. From there, Beason playfully chased Bowe into the LSU entrance tunnel. Several of Beason’s teammates noticed the two-man ruckus and joined the chase unaware it was good-natured. Beason unsuccessfully tried to explain, yelling repeatedly that he and Bowe were just joking around as the fight escalated

    This part is rumor:
2 UM players ran after the player and retrieved the ball from the LSU player before the player got to the locker room. Both UM players were not wearing helmets at the time. Words were exchanged, as were threats on both sides. The ball was retrieved and the UM players were walking towards their locker room when several LSU players assaulted the UM players, which involved striking both of them in the exposed head with helmets. The players were also kicked while they were unconscious before security cleared up the situation. 2 LSU players are in custody, and the local police are investigating. Inside sources say that UM is pursuing charges against the players, although no specifics have been released, at least one charge looks to be aggravated assault, as it is unlikely that an assault with a deadly weapon can be filed for a football helmet. The 2 UM players are in stable condition in a local hospital. One suffered a fractured skull and a concussion along with several other bruises along the body, and the second was treated for a mild concussion and other bruises.

At least one of the two who are purportedly in the hospital was spotted walking to the tunnel on his own.

Has OJ been accounted for during all of this? Atlanta's not too far from his crib.

One reason to question this rumor is that Miami Assistant Athletic Director for Communications Mark Pray yesterday that Miami wide receiver Khalil Jones, who was taken to a local hospital, "Is fine. From what I understand, he was not unconscious."

Also Miami offensive lineman Andrew Bain was never hospitalized according to news reports online.

So perhaps that will squash this rumor that is sure to spread (I found it on a UM message board).

Did they go the long way around through the LSU tunnel?

My nephew is friends with one of the LSU players. I just got off of the phone with him after he returned from Hotlanta following an extended stay. Most, if not all LSU players, were reported to have been partying very hard ( as expected ) in the Sports bar of the hotel they were staying in after the game. If I were the U , I would be embarassed to pursue charges.

I think this is a rumor for sure....I saw a photo on one of the sports websites and it shows one of the Miami players in question (Bain) in the middle of a bunch of LSU and U players in the tunnel, and he is the ONLY idiot without his helmet on in the entire picture.

Also, if LSU players were detained for this incident it would have been front page news on ESPN.com and the national papers.

MT, aka SNOPES.COM, says this is BS!

If we are going to discuss this rumor lets get the verbage correct. If a "fight" occurred that would at least imply two equally qualified participants. Based upon what we "know" it was an @sswhipping from the get go ! Query: If you get your @ss whipped twice is that redundant ? New web address for "the U" [email protected]

To quote Larry Coker himself: "I don't think we stopped playing," Coker said. "I don't think we played the entire day."

Yeah, well Larry, your team can't fight either !!!
