I think this is good news for the LSU system and for UNO. Dr. Ryan is a very smart man who has a clear understanding of where UNO is in "the grand scheme of things", where UNO needs to be, and what UNO, and the rest of the State Universities in Louisiana are going to need to do in order the get competative (in some cases) and remain competative (in others). Ryan appointed Chancellor of the University of New Orleans (New Orleans)- Today, the Louisiana State University System’s Board of Supervisors appointed Dr. Timothy P. Ryan, longtime University of New Orleans Business Dean, as Chancellor for the University of New Orleans. “My primary objective in selecting a new Chancellor for the University of New Orleans was to establish a process that would involve the entire UNO community. The responses I received from the various constituent groups indicated strong support for the leadership ability of Dr. Tim Ryan. I was pleased to recommend Dr. Tim Ryan to the LSU Board of Supervisors and to receive their unanimous endorsement. I am very confident that Dr. Ryan will be an outstanding Chancellor for the University of New Orleans, and I look forward to working with him as a part of my leadership team,” said Dr. William L. Jenkins, President, Louisiana State University System. “Tim Ryan is honest and forthright in his communications with others, and he has genuine concern for the university. He has a deep appreciation for the academic, research and service missions of the University and for the importance of developing partnerships that benefit the university and its community,” said Dr. Joe M. King, Dean of the College of Sciences and Chair of the Chancellor Candidate Review Committee. Ryan has served as Interim Executive Vice Chancellor and Chief Operating Officer at the University of New Orleans since July. He has served on numerous local and state government advisory panels. “I look forward to leading the University of New Orleans, my alma mater, into the future. We have a very strong team of faculty and administrators at UNO, and they are poised and eager to take the University to the next level. A clear focus on our mission to provide our students the highest quality education will enable us to serve the broad interests of the Greater New Orleans and south Louisiana community. Our students, whether native to the immediate region or attracted from elsewhere to UNO because of the excellence of our academic programs, are the future leaders of this city and state. The better their education, the better their performance in the various careers they will pursue. The better their performance, the better way of life for us all,” Ryan said. Fredrick Barton, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts at UNO, who is now serving as Interim Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost, said, “Tim Ryan has already led us away from the budgetary abyss we faced when he took over as Chief Operating Officer in July. He is a man who has the unqualified support of every senior administrator on our campus, a dedicated academic whose vision and values we share. I can say with utmost confidence that we are, every one of us, delighted he has been appointed our permanent leader.” Ryan is married to Louise Schreiner, former Financial Officer at EDG, Inc., and now an independent consultant.
