Chavis is younger than Les Miles, Tommy Tuberville, Nick Saban, Pete Carroll, Jim Tressel, Mack Brown, Butch Davis, etc...

Chavis is primarily a 4-3 guy, but he has does throw in a 3-4 look every now and then.

Because of Tennessee's comparative talent at LB compared to DL, there have been people calling for Chavis to switch to a primarily 3-4 defense for 5 years now, but he has still stayed primarily in a 4-3.

I'm thinking he procrastinated because he was intending on naming the co-dc thing from the start.

or because every quality guy was already taken.

you people act like he just sat on his ass watching TV for a few weeks, then decided to go with the Co-DC thing because he didn't feel like looking. Just because he didn't televise the entire search doesn't mean a search wasn't happening.

Maybe he placed phone calls, talked to people, looked over their defensive schemes, etc., and came to the conclusion that no-one worth a chit was realistically available.

Or was. He was too old-school, so he was fired.

I agree every coach is entitled to a poor game. I think Chavis, Nix, Rhoades, and Spaz would all be good choices.
