...than last year ATHENS - A snapshot of three games this season has shown Mark Richt that Georgia's pass protection has improved since LSU sacked Bulldogs quarterback David Greene a combined 10 times in two games last year. But the Georgia coach can't be sure what that means in the big picture for Saturday's game against an LSU defense whose blitz packages were too much for Georgia to handle those two losses. "We're better than a year ago up front," Richt said. "I don't know if we're good enough, but we're better." Third-ranked Georgia has surrendered just three sacks this year with a more mature offensive line after giving up an SEC-high 47 last season, but the Bulldogs opponents haven't blitzed anywhere near as much as LSU does. "We haven't seen that many blitzes this year to be honest with you," center Russ Tanner said. "A lot of teams have been sitting back on us. We know what LSU's bringing." Link
LOL they could get 5 guys off ULL and have a better line that last year. I agree they have to be better.
"We haven't seen that many blitzes this year to be honest with you," center Russ Tanner said. "A lot of teams have been sitting back on us. We know what LSU's bringing." You may think you know, but you have no idea. If you know then why did we have more sacks in the second game instead of the first last year.
We know what LSU's bringing ... LOL What a line of crap ... The truth is ... we really don't know what LSU is bringing or isn't bringing ... Or ... when and where they'll bring it ... But we hope they don't smoke us too badly when they bring it ... and DRILL GREENE in his azz and have him play like the beerhall galute he is  Cue Georgia poster of "Finish the Drill"
ramah... Why is it you seem to just despise the presence of the opposing team so much? You took what was a logical statement and called it a line of crap, and then went on to act like he was talking crap. He said "We know what LSU's bringing". Wow....what a terrible statement (*sarcasm*). He does know what LSU is bringing. You know what LSU is bringing. I know what LSU is bringing. I am pretty sure my grandmother knows what LSU is bringing. It is pressure.....lots of it and all day long. He didn't say anything about being able to stop it, just said he knows it is coming. As for why they didn't stop it last year? Simple.......Freshman OL vs. Veteran DL. Veteran DL wins everytime (making them look pretty bad in the process, espically in the SECCG, where LSU made a living getting to the QB with a 4 man rush).
This makes me very happy! I really hope they think they know what LSU is "bringing", which I believe is wave after wave of blitzes. As has been discussed here previously, this year's D generates more pressure up front than last year's D, hence fewer blitzes. Besides, I think Saban and Muschamp know the real key to slowing the Georgia O is to confuse and keep Green off-key all day long. If David is skittish and confused, they go nowhere. Then again, the exact same thing can be said about the LSU offense (confusing the QB is the key)...
okay, I am going to (shudder) take up for ramah here. I believe ramah's point is that LSU will likely disguise their defenses well so that UGA will not know if there will be a rush from just four down lineman or whether another player or more will blitz. Or, whether a cornerback will come and a d lineman will drop into coverage. Or, whether it will be a delayed blitz. Or, whether a safety will come. Or, whether a linebacker will start to blitz, engage a blocker, and then drop into coverage. Or, etc., etc., etc. LSU has, probably, nearly a hundred different packages or plays. There is now way for UGA to know which one will be coming. Now, the players may know that LSU will be bringing something - even if that something is a very hard push from 3 or 4 defensive lineman. And they may know that LSU will bring more than 4 and, perhaps, even 7 or 8 at times. So, in that regard, they "know" what LSU is bringing. But they won't know, specifically, what LSU is bringing. So, perhaps, you, Hairy Dog, and the Dogs' center were speaking generally while ramah was speaking specifically. Disclaimer: This post should not be construed in any way to mean that I do not dissapprove of ramah's general tone and style and the way he responds to opposing teams' posters on this forum.
Geez, guys he's just saying that they know good and well that we're not gonna sit back in coverage like the first 3 teams did. Instead we're gonna bring the house. We know that. They know that. It was a compliment to us, and a statement that they know they haven't faced anything like our defense and our defensive schemes in the first 3 games. Some people need to stop reading things into statements that simply aren't there.
You are exactly right!!!!! For some reason some people are constantly looking for something to scream about. Every team on LSU's schedule knows that LSU is going to blitz often and from everywhere, it's no secret. That's all this guy is saying is that they have yet to face the type of blitzing LSU will bring and they know LSU is going to bring it. No big deal, just the facts that everyone that has witnessed LSU football under Nick Saban should already know. Of course he thinks his O line should be better, hell they couldn't possibly be worse.
