I am going to lose my reputation here.........but I have to tell you I am a Troy fan, and I will be pulling for them next Saturday. It's hard to explain if you have not been thru it, but Troy has come so far with the athletic program, and we are so proud of them. It takes a lot of hard work for a small school to go Division 1 and to be taken seriously. All the fans are so excited about coming to LSU...I mean we have played a lot of large schools but the defending national champion....well it really means a lot, and we counting on tailgating with you guys big time............show us how it's done...we've heard you're the best. Our band will not be coming ...simply because it's so expensive, and we just can't afford it this year...but it's your homecoming anyway, and your band needs to be given all of the half time to put on thier show, and all of the things a school has to do for homecoming. Just wanted to let you know that we're coming and we're excited...haven't even had time to concentrate on winning or losing...it's just the chance to go and play in a big game and to party, but don't get me wrong our team will concentrate and play the best they can..and we'll just have to see how that turns out.
If you've never spent a Saturday at Tiger Stadium, you're in for a treat. If you bring the right attitude, you'll find the Tiger faithful to be some great new friends. One piece of advice.....get there early.....you wouldn't want to miss anything.....in other words.....like Wednesday or Thursday. Have a good time.
I've been to Tiger Stadium as a Bama fan, and had a great time, but some fans that I will be traveling with have never been. The only large games that they have been to was with Troy(almost put State....well it will always be to me) and that was Miss. State, and the games at the new Troy stadium.....so this is really going to be a culture shock for them. Troy is building everything from the ground up....it will be great to show them that even though the tailgaiting at Troy is fun...this is what the big time looks like, and we can learn some new recipes. The head basketball coach at Troy is from New Orleans, and he has always brought us seasonings and recipes that are quite good..........spicy but great.
I hope that you and your group of Troy supporters have a great time! By the way, will you be back for the Bama game?
I want to come back for the Bama game. The plans have just not been finalized yet...I have friends that have me a ticket and a place to stay, but I just don't know if I will be able to get away....and I just don't know about that game. It's one thing to come for Troy and know you're probably going to get beat(ok...so I still dream) and go for the good time and the fellowship cause we're still learning. But to go for Bama and not even know if we will have enough players healthy enough to play is a very scary thing. Besides do you think that I can take that much partying in Louisiana?
Disappointing for Troy fans... I'm a huge :lsug: fan but because of my involvement in athletics I've been to Troy and have seen the Trojans many times over the years. And eventhough I think the Golden Band from Tigerland is the best in the land, Troy's band is outstanding as well. I remember when I was working at USL as a GA, I kept telling the folks there how good Troy's band was and no one seemed to want to listen, but after their halftime performance the USL fans were blown away. So I am a bit disappointed that the Troy band will not be making the trip to Baton Rouge. And you'll find out why I and many others like me think there is no greater place on Earth than to be in Tiger Stadium on a Fall Saturday night.
I know, I wish the band could go also. The band this year is bigger than it has been in quite a while, and of course we think that it is great, and we would love to come and show it off, but it's just too expensive at this time to go to a lot of games. I'm thinking also that in the back of someone's mind...we're hoping big time that we get to go to a bowl this year, and we want to be able to take our band. In the past few years while trying to grow and qualify for division 1 in football we have had to explain to people why we play large schools...........hey we need the money to grow and the experience to compete, but with our band we feel that we have always been division 1. When I was in school at Troy, I remember students going over to the field after the Thursday night pep rally to watch the band practice, and when we played our rival Jax state fans would stay after the game for hours for the competition between the 2 bands..it was great. I mentioned that the band was not going to be coming this year because in earlier posts(awhile back) someone from another school said that Troy was not bringing their band, because of a safety issue, and I wanted ya'll to know that is not the case, and other schools really should not speak for Troy. The band wants to come...band people are a partying type people and would love to stay and party in La.
I have to agree with Bama My Heart. Troy has come a long way. I've been living and hour or so SE of Troy for 2 years now, and since I've been here, Troy has made vast improvements. Just living here, I guess I call myself a Troy fan. There's no way in hell I could say that about Auburn or Bama though....even though I give Bama a little more respect than Auburn. If Troy continues the way it's going, look for them to get a little more National attention every year. Hell.....maybe one year we could replace Vanderbilt or Kentucky with Troy in the SEC!
I will say this, the Troy game is one that I am not taking lightly. I think it could very well be a close game and our fans should realize this is not going to be a homecoming blowout situation. Of course I would love be wrong on this, but Troy has my respect.
