Sorry laduckfan I would be grasping at straws too if it were LSU. But if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck,... its a duck. Sorry, I just couldn't resist.--I'm so ashamed. :dis:
You're right. Thanks for calling me on it. I am holding out hope that this ends up being nothing, but with the NCAA coming down on a lot of schools, I'm not holding my breath.
Just seeing Lyles flip on Oregon, when he'd already had a long interview with the NCAA and never said a thing about any of this then, is fishy. He's butt hurt that Oregon didn't re-up for his service, basically putting him out of business. Why else would he wait until now?
I agree. He figures he can't get any more money from Oregon so he is trying to hurt them. I wonder if he got paid for his story to the press? Historically a disgruntled person is often the undoing for a program. At SMU a player that was getting paid squealed after he left the team and the money stopped flowing. At USC, Reggie Bush's supposedly future agent sued Bush and went public with all the gifts he gave to Reggie and his family when he didn't get paid once Reggie went pro. Lyles is a scumbag who is trying to capitalize on players. Unfortunately for Oregon he is squealing.
I'm curious if the NCAA will interview him again. Since this story goes against his earlier testimony, how will they view it? Will he be credible? The crappy part about all of this is that if you dig into any program, you'll find things like this. It's just Oregon's turn I guess. Good thing is there will still be football in September! Who's on the field, and on the sidelines remains to be seen.
Interesting post in another forum that I wanted to share: Texas was upset with Lyles after Seastrunk went to the Ducks. Texas is trying to make an effort to blackball Oregon from recruiting in Texas, and (allegedly) paid for his (Lyles) resignation in the recruiting service business (note: after the Yahoo! interview Lyles is suddenly no longer operating in that field). Remember how fired-up Mac Brown got after losing Lache (not to mention LaMichael James)? This interview was twelve days before the Yahoo! interview broke (it clearly shows that Mac Brown and UT wanted Willie and the Duckies out of Texas on the horse they came in on): Lyles and Shelton on KCOH-AM (1430) 6/19/11 "Lyles: I felt that it [media campaign to discredit Lyles] was brought about in a very meticulous manner and it was very well staged and set up. Shelton: Staged and set up by whom? Lyles: By the University of Texas. Shelton: Why? Lyles: Because they did not want to see me in recruiting. First off, they thought they lost out on kids... Shelton: [Interrupts Lyles] Give me a name, give me a kid .. Lyles: Lache Seastrunk is the kid that was in question about Oregon. They’re [University of Texas] trying to say basically that the kid signed there because I got paid $25,000 [by Oregon, so] I persuaded the kid to sign there. Shelton: So this is the problem about the $25,000? Lyles: Right. That’s the problem about the $25,000. They [Texas] are trying to say that basically I influenced that kid to go to that university. Shelton: Do you think there are any scouting services that have ever been paid to influence a kid to go to Texas? Lyles: I guarantee there’s been high school coaches who have. I don’t know about scouting services. I know they deal with a few scouting services themselves. They actually used to be a client of mine when I was with MSLSports.net in 2007. And when I didn’t want to steer kids their way [to Texas] that’s when the relationship became strained. That’s when they [Texas] began the vendetta against me personally." END interview... Remember when Mac Brown lobbied (whined and complained) to the pollsters and BCS in 2004 that they deserved the Rose Bowl bid over Cal (USC was in the title game therefore Cal got the RB bid, but since Cal wasn't the Pac-10 champ the at-large bid could be considered) and it worked, keeping Cal out of the Rose Bowl since 1959.""
Many, many Duck fans suspect Texas is the impetus behind this whole mess. I remember an interview: a Texas high school coach said that when an Oregon assistant showed up at his school seeking access to players. He first called Mac Brown to find out what he should do. Clearly Brown has a vice grip on Texas, and he wants to keep it that way.
The high school coaches in Tx are tight, I know a few. There was one old coach in Tx. named Peach, a coach from one of the SEC schools got Peach mad with the handling of a couple recruits, that SEC coach is no longer welcome at some of the schools. Oh, Coach Peach.......... TheOldCoach.com - Texas coaching icon calling it career A&M is making moves in Tx. like the old days, they are doing well. Mac has another year like the last, its gonna be something to watch.
Interesting how Oregon people instantly turn on conservatives. Can you marry in Oregon or do you just live together?
In your post you say that "I'll come out dumber", this infers that I'm already dumb. You took a little shot at me. So I returned the volley. It was all in good fun though, at least that was my intent. FYI see my last post on the Lemon yellow thread, and you'll see that their are two Oregon's.
