There was a huge scandal that erupted on LSU's campus around late 99 early 2000... It came out that undercover police officers arrested a number of men for performing lewd acts in the Coates Hall bathrooms... One of the first things I learned after setting foot on campus in the fall of 1997 was never to use the restroom in the Union side bathroom of Coates Hall. Allegedly, there were "things" that went down in there that were weird...Very "Oz-ish" if you get my drift? Well, the LSU PD ran a sting and arrested everyone from Teaching Assistants to professors, and it was a huge scandal/humor filled wink to the students who knew about it for years and just kind of took it for urban legend/granted. Ever since then, people who know about it use it in duerrogatory forms... SEN-a contributor on this site-actually made a sign for Gameday when they came for the Jawja game that was on air most of the broadcast that read, "Pollack hangs out in the Coates Hall Bathrooms!"
That sign was awesome. One of my professors was talking about that the next week. He thought it was hilarious.

It really wasn't just an urban legend? I heard about it while I was there in the mid '90s but assumed it was just a story. It's even mentioned in the '96 Gumbo as an urban legend.
The Coates bathroom legend goes back to the late 80's-early 90's when I was at LSU. The sign should read: Greene, Pollack, Trev, Kirk, and Mark hang out TOGETHER in the Coates Restroom.
