What a relief that this incompetent boob has a strategy, eh?

Bush, who has rejected any timetable for a withdrawal, said Tuesday, "The people don't want me making decisions based upon politics; they want me to make decisions based upon the recommendation from our generals on the ground."

Odd... word is that Bush will declare that Iraqi troops are now ready to begin taking over their own security, and will announce that up to 60,000 American troops will be withdrawn in 2006. Of course, that's a bit contradictory to General Casey's announcement just two months ago that only one Iraqi battalion was ready for combat and security missions.

So, George doesn't play politics, eh? Today's speech wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that over 60% of Americans consider this war a mistake? Who does he think he's fooling?

So, two and a half years and 2100 lives after the invasion George finally has a strategy. How refreshing, but I'm sure it wouldn't be anywhere near as effective as the one I propose:

1- Bush apologizes to this country and to the people of Iraq for starting a war on lies
2- Bush promises to subject himself, Powell, Ruimsfeld, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Feith, Libby, Rove, Rice, Hadley, Bremer, etc. to an international war crimes tribunal
3- Bush announces withdrawal of all US troops as soon as practical
    4- Bush announces his retirement.

    So, where was the plan?

Does Bush really think we're stupid enough to believe that a big PLAN FOR VICTORY banner over his head was any more meaningful than the MISSION ACCOMPLISHED one?

Well, I guess dimwits might have been impressed. There seems to be no shortage.

Most folks like me were probably at work and missed it. We'll either have to depend on the liberal do-nothings (I won't call any names) who saw it or the 6:00 news to fill us in on the details before we can pass any judgment.

I want to read it, too.

I have been asking "what is the course?" when people say "Stay the course". I've been asking "What constitutes victory?" when they say "We must not leave until we win".

If Bush is finally trying to answer these questions, then it is about time and I am interested in what he has to say. Half of the country has wanted to know these answers for three years, but it took pressure from his own party to force him to make a "plan." Let's hear what it is.

    Details, please.

i dunno where you guys have been. the plan all along has been to establish a democracy, train the iraqi dudes enough so that they can remain stable without our help, then leave when they can function on their own without imploding.

    whats the confusion?

They want to hear: "On June 1, 2006 we will leave Iraq" That's how ignorant they are.

The confusion is how we define stability and democracy. That has always been the confusion.

I'll bet you that Bush says something just like your "plan". I'll also bet you that he says we will start withdrawing troops within a year, even though that democracy and stability milestone will not have yet been reached.

So much for staying the course.

"Peace with Honor" and "Vietnamization" were Nixon's phrases. I wonder what Dubya's catch words will be.

In the words of Lee Corso..."Not so fast my friend". I want to hear we won't leave because we can't, because the war on terror includes Syria and Iran and if we leave we won't be able adequately address the problems with those countries when the time comes. I want to hear that we know there won't be real democracy in Iraq as long as they are slaves to islam, so, we'll take a form of government that is friendly to the US and will allow us to maintain a formidable military presence within the borders of Iraq to deal with others in the Mideast.

I want to hear this but I know I won't, because the American public and the press and the fruits and nuts in Europe can't handle the truth. So, although I haven't heard his address, I'm sure it was some sort of dog and pony show skating around the real truth.
