How about that noise??? Can we get some attendees to comment on the volume of our fans? We couldn't help but notice that during pre-game the ABC crew on the floor of the dome was all but SCREAMING into the microphones. You don't get a very good idea of it from TV, but damn, we could hear the volume go up several notches on OU's numerous 3rd and 4th downs. As much as we all would have loved to be there, we want to hear ya'lls take on the atmosphere inside that dome.
The only sporting event I ever attended that was louder than the last sack by Turner was when Az Hakim dropped the ball on the punt return and the Saints recovered. The noise on the Turner sack was just as loud. We were in the LSU endzone and people (including me, my Dad and my brother) we jumping up and down like school kids. No matter what was going in your life at the time for that 1 moment everything in the world was right.
I don't know if I have heard Tiger Stadium that loud in my life. The noise after that sack was so loud that I couldn't hear anything for a few seconds. It was nuts.
It was incredible. I was hoarse by the third qtr and couldn't contribute much after that. Too much screaming on Bourbon St. The whole place was electric, tension was in the air. You felt it the minute you stepped into the Hyatt. We passed by the WWL pregame show with Buddy D and Hogie, butterlies flutter, it's getting close now. As we enter onto the Plaza and awaiting our turn to be wanded, you glance up toward the Dome and the 10 story Nokia Sugar Bowl banner is lit up with spotlights. The blimp is circling overhead. (never have figured why you would send a blimp to an indoor game) OH yeah Baby it's on!!! The crowd is packed and tighting as we go through the checkpoints, the crowd starts chanting L S U !!! L S U !!!. Hairs are standing up now and it's only 6:00 pm. We make it through checkpoint charlie with no incident. Find our gate. Gate B Sec. 110 row 22 seat 15 and 16, we're in. OH my God !!! What if we actually win?!??! The dome already about half full some of the players are already warming up. The Sooner Schooner is in the endzone just to our right. Get that horse out of here, this is a new turf you idiot!!!! It was hot for some reason in the dome. The ran out of water and diet cokes in the third qtr. ( I guess they weren't expecting company last night) The noise erupts, here comes some more Tigers on to the field, the lineman. I can't believe I'm here. I will cherish this forever.
I'll let the number of hoarse fans answer taht question It was LOUD -- although apparently the student section wasn't loud enough since people couldn't hear our chants like SEC Championship cheer, the "Win your conference" one or us calling Stoops and asshole when he was on the field throwing his tantrum. I'd say the loudest cheer came from when the Pregame started in the begining of the game. Second would after we won.
Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences with us I LOVE to read everyone of them since I didn't go to the game. It makes me almost experience a little bit of the flavor at the game
Being on the 35 yard line in the LSU section of the Terrace, it was really hard to tell how loud the LSU fans were. I will say this - IT WAS RELENTLESS. When LSU made a good play on offense, EVERYONE around us was yelling at the top of their voices. WHENEVER Oklahoma was on defense, it was NON STOP yelling. Given that there were so few times when Oklahoma seemed bothered by the noise, I have to believe that they were using hand signals and did VERY, VERY little (IF ANY) audibles. BUT, I do want to hand it to the OU fans. We could READILY hear the OU fans when they made a good play or when LSU was on offense in critical situations - AND THEY WERE LOUD. A LOT louder than I thought they could be. They HAD TO HAVE more than the 16,000 tickets that were allotted to them. And, overall, the Oklahoma fans were gracious and NICE. I'll be an Oklahoma fan for a long time. The ONLY thing that surprised me is that with 1:50 left, it was like someone turned on the light and all the roaches disappeared. At one point, it seemed the Dome was filled. AND, ALL OF A SUDDEN, the entire OU Nation was GONE. They got out of there SO QUICK you didn't even see them leave. With about 1:30 (and, knowing that LSU couldn't run out the clock without punting), I was shocked to see that side of the stadium virtually EMPTY.
NO kidding! My dad couldn't get over how quickly they bolted from the building!! That's one of the first things he has been telling people.
Oh yeah, they had a lot more than 16,000. But, understand, the Sooner fans were all confident a long time ago that they would be there and started buying up tickets.
It was very loud in there. IMO I have heard it louder in Tiger Stadium, although not much. There was one Auburn game (non-earthquake) where my father-in-law was yelling with his fingers in his ears. That was loud. Much like LSUBud, I was in the Terrace on the 25, row 7 and couldn't hear much of what was below us. There was serious yelling and noise up there and unlike the SEC CG, I didn't see any OU peeps in our section. And props to the OU fans. They got very loud, but the "OU..OU..OU" and "Boomer Sooner" cheers/songs really start to wear on a person after 60 minutes of torture (from the OU band). One thing of note was that the Golden Band was piped into the speakers in the upper deck on the LSU side, so we could hear the band for the most part. I had a good view of the student section and could figure out what they were playing and when to yell by their hand signals. Also, the OU fans I talked with outside the Dome and in the streets were very nice and congratulatory. We also commended their team for a fine season and complimented their defensive effort. Not to have to play them again any time soon, but I would welcome the OU fans to Baton Rouge any day.
