How does certain folks say that the game last night was ugly? Penalities may be the only way you say that. Other than that, the teams played it exactly the way they wanted to. I get the impression that many college football fans have been entertained by high powered offenses, big plays, and high scoring this season all ready. So when they see two power teams line up and play smashmouth football, its ugly??? I thought this game was a game of beauty. Albeit, I am not happy with LSU's k ickoff and punting units and the penalities. Other than that, the other units played above average. I guess I may be the only one that actually enjoyed "the Earthquake Game" against Auburn in the 80's. Great defensive play is fun to watch.

LSU is like a heavyweight boxer conserving his energy knowing he just wants to get to the later rounds. I never thought that I would enjoy the power-I formation as much as I am enjoying now. It is refreshing. Any variation of the spread in this day and age was originally created for less athletic teams to stay with their opponents. It is a gimmick offense that will eventually lose it luster. LSU and the Alabama's of the world know that they can reproduce results consistently by playing within themselves and being patient by doing some basic things in an excellent way with above average talent. Gary Danielson, CBS sportscaster had it right in an August interview this year, "Alabama and LSU are mini-NFL teams."

Some say that the playcalling was too conservative. Garbage. You go on the road in the SEC and win by not beating yourself, don't turn the ball over, and keep it close in the first half. If you have "that" defense, you don't have to get cute (ala Crowton). 3 long drives is awesome. Keep your defense off the field so when they get on, they are rested and are ready to thrash someone.

There are some things that LSU needs to work on coming out of this game: pass protection (running backs, Ware and Ford have missed blocks), penalties (both sides of the ball), kickoff team (kicker and kickoff agressiveness), and punting (Brad Wing please get well soon).

With all of the offensive minds that we have on the headsets (Kragthorpe, Stud, Gonzales, and Ensminger), I think the playbook will have variation and we will see it develop. We, thank goodness, won't see 47 different sets in ONE game.
Let's not forget that in 2003 Matt Mauck played in 14 games and averaged 201 yards per game.Oh and Matt Flynn in 2007 played in 12 games and averaged .... wait for it... 200 yards per game. Running the ball.. well the Vincent and Addai gang in 2003 rushed for 1521 yards while in 2007 the Hester and Williams gang rushed for 1581 yards. See any similarities with the Ware and Tear (Ford) gang who has the potential to get 2000 yards over a 14 game season.

I had been saying that LSU was like a python that slowly squeezed the life out of its prey, but I had to laugh, Matt Hinton of Yahoo's Dr. Saturday had this to say about LSU this morning:
"If Alabama's defense is a boa constrictor, slowly sucking the life out of opposing offenses, LSU's is more like a goon that throws the offense into a burlap sack and starts beating it with a stick. It is not a subtle business. But it is very, very effective."
I say let us, like the LSU coaching staff and team during game time, be patient and enjoy the ride. This will not be a entertaining,high-flying, big play show. No, no, it will be a methodical approach to disarm and dismantle opponents play by play. Like the sumo wrestlers in Japan, make contact, maintain contact, and push your opponent off the field of play, that seems to be LSU and for that fact, Les Miles is getting shivers down his spine knowing that his football Godfather Coach Bo would be smiling at his 3 yards and a cloud of dust.

    It certainly wasn't ugly.

It was conservative on offense for 3 quarters, but it was far from ugly.

Late in the game, with the score 16-6, I grinned and thought..."now this is LSU football".

Thanks. What's the word on Jefferson? Is he out for the season? Frankly, i'm not upset that he is gone, mostly because I am not a fan of the 2 quarterback system.

I think he will be exonerated, but what happens next is anybody's guess. We'll certainly welcome him back to the team, but I can't see us going to a 2 QB system if Lee continues to play this way.

Had Jefferson not gotten into trouble, he was going to be the #1 guy right?

I see i'm not getting any hits on my stadium post. I'm flying down to Baton Rouge for the Arkansas game. It'll be my first game. Any advice on where to sit? Or should I say....where NOT to sit in Tiger STadium? I'd like to buy my ticket soon.
