It's time to set some objective and reasonable goals for Miles's next season so that we minimize the subjectivity of our evaluation of how he performed at the end of the season. We can say that Miles either did or didn't meet our goals next season based on what we set out for. This way we can't argue about it later; either he did or he didn't. Here are my suggestions:

    1. No more than two losses.
    2. Win the SEC West Division.
    3. A top-5 recruiting class for 2017.
    4. Beat Alabama.
    5. Beat Arkansas.
    6. Develop Harris into an efficient passer.
    7. Improve the special teams to a top-50 unit.

Obviously numbers 6 and 7 are open to interpretation. I specifically left out the goal of developing balance on offense because I think it's irrelevant. If you win, you win, whether you run, throw, or kick return your way to more points. But I know some of you will suggest it, so we can hear argument on it. I also specifically left out making the playoff because I think it's unreasonable to say that he would be unsuccessful if we beat Alabama, won the west, and missed the playoff. I don't see the winner of the west not making the playoff next year, though, and I'm open to changing it.

Now how many of these does he have to achieve to be successful? I think if we beat Alabama and win the west, I'm satisfied for next season. This would probably entail a 0-2 loss season as well obviously.

Let's get this settled so we have something to look at when the time comes and we can be objective about it.

Not gonna happen, and I for one am not gonna drink the arsenic laced kool aid again. I've been fooled into thinking this was an SEC championship caliber team 4 years in a row and its just gotten worse and worse and worse, and instead of doing more the administration is doing less (no pun intended). Cutting assistants to go cheaper, hiring used car salesmen as position coaches. It's going to get worse, and we will watch all the teams around us get better while we fade into oblivion.

If we beat Alabama and win the west I am gonna be more concerned with chopping wood, because Hell will have frozen over, even in the face of overwhelming and almost uncontrollable global warming.

If this is multiple choice, there should be a none-of-the-above.

I don't want to flame the guy that started this thread, but NONE of the array of options are either reasonable or rational. None. ZIP. Nada.

That's what you take issue with? Okay, fine, we can do this your way. Give me your irrational goals that you will be happy with if Miles accomplishes.

Your goals are great, they are mine, too. But in a rational universe, they are just not gonna happen.

Okay, that's fine. I'm not concerned right now with what's going to happen, though, at least not for the purposes of this thread. I'm concerned with what we think should happen next year. I have a feeling that if we don't do this now, and we go 11-2, people are going to bitch about how Miles blew the 2 games and say he should be fired. Then we can have something to point to.

Im with LaSalle. I have no faith in this administration or HC any longer. Im not buying into this charade again. Les will be excited when we play bama. I will not. 4 years must be my limit.

Our HC will not change very much if at all.

We needed a change to attain those goals listed above. We needed to make a change yesterday if we were real players. We are not.

I came into the season thinking we would lost multiple games, so I am honestly less concerned about the three losses we have this year so far than the manner in which the losses happened, and the fact that our offense has not progressed at all. If we had lost three tough games to good teams (which Bama, ole Miss, and Arky are), but our offense had played well and our D was decent, and our special teams weren't at the bottom of the country, we would be having a different conversation. We were WAY over-rated at #2, and in reality probably should be about 15-20 with a new DC, and a QB who is still learning the game. We have under performed for sure, but should have never been thought of as a top team.

My only stipulations to Miles if I was Alleva would be: 1) Hire an OC that you trust (someone outside of the good ole boys network you usually draw from), and let him coach without interference, to include game planning and in game play calls. Miles would still make the big calls (whether to go for two, go for it on fourth down, etc.) but the OC would call the plays; and 2) Get rid of BDP and get the special teams together.
