Even though I thought we should have had 45 by halftime, I'm glad we took over and made it a good showing for the rest of the country. i was a bit frustrated after that 1st quarter. But it looks like everyone else was impressed. We are already have two cover stories. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/ and http://www.footballgameplan.com/
45 by half time? not with a new qb, rb and recievers. We had to get into a groove. Probably wil have to do it again next week. Hope the defense can hold em during the first half. I think they can,
as much as i HATE craig james and am indifferent to flutie, i agree with their assessment. our O-line was sloppy last night. flynn was good but not great, and the team got off to a slow start. the offense was very vanilla (hopefully by design) and i thought for a season opener in the rain , they moved flynn around too much on called plays (he takes off on his own a good bit too). BUT..... jsut about 80% of tigerfans said both teams would start out slow (which they did) the offense would take a while to click with a new OC, starting QB, and shaky O-line (which they did) we would run up state at their place by 40+ and possibly pitch a shutout. (which they did) all in all a good effort and i'm happy with the execution for the most part. (so excited for steltz) on my wishlist for next week (besides a W) ---flynn looks a little crisper all around (he was great running the ball last night) --- the O line stops making mistakes before and after the snap. (this offense will only be as good as the O-line lets them) --- we see a little more keiland williams and charles scott (even though i think hester played well) ---other receivers besides doucet and hester get open (it was few and far btwn, unless flynn zeroes in on these guys every time) --- my heart doesn't climb to my throat every time we're in that punt formation. --- no rain. i think miles and co. will make the proper moves, the o line concerns me the most. all in all the Vtech game should be a great one.
I'm sure several of you are going to disagree, but I didn't think our O was "horrible" last night. Granted we started out slow, it was our first game of the season since our bowl game last year.....we could have been worse. I thought State's D really stepped it up in the 1st half. Watch how the other teams start off tomorrow. They're probably not going to be 100% either. As long as our D steps up in the 1st half next Saturday....I think we'll get a W.
I don't think the whole O-line was bad, but Stewart seemed to be struggling. The false starts and holds were annoying, but they can be corrected pretty quickly.. call that first game jitters I guess.
The first half was horrible, but I really dont thinmk we wanted to open it up against Miss. State. Think about it, we beat them 45 to zilch with the most basic playcalling in the history of man kind. Im sure Les knew that we had surperior athlethes and didn't want to display everyhting we had vs. Miss. State. But I agree, as in the original post. We looked horrible in the first half.
