When I was young I listened to my Mom and Dad and their friends talk about the good ole days. No its not "old days". It's ole days.

Well my friends as time passes on and Nick Saban either retires or goes to the NFL at some point in the future we will look back at his rein over this program as the good ole days. This guy is intense, ornery (on a good day), a motivator, and flat out the best coach in college football or maybe the best coach at any level of football.

My hope is when Nicks stay as a Tiger is over that we have someone that came up in the Saban school of coaching as his replacement. The thoughts that come to mind right now is how the student (Bellicek) surpasses the teacher (Parcells) to become even better than he was...

It's kind of like raising kids. We want our kids to be better parents than we are. Hence, the circle of life.

Is that person, Jimbo Fisher or Will Muschamp? I don't know but I sure hope we stay "in the family" when it's time.

In the meantime, I hope Nick is with us for 20 more years or until he retires. Remember Tiger fans these ARE the "good ole days". :geaux:

Saban may have an opportunity to become a modern legend in the SEC. No, no, not like Steve Spurrier who just wants to play golf and have his people run the show. I am talking bigger and better. Saban can last a long time at LSU if he wishes. Hopefully he sticks around for a long time.

Tiger fan, I don't disagree but I think the lure and the $$$ of the NFL might be too much for Nick to pass up.

He can sign one contract for about 5M per season for 5 years that would be more than he would make at LSU for the next 8-10 years. I'm all for loyalty but he must consider his family. :lsug:

Nick is not driven by dollars. Sure he wants to be paid handsomely and he is.

Nick's a control freak and he has total control over the LSU football program. In the NFL he would have to answer to the GM and the owner. It's a different NFL today than it was when Nick was an assistant. I think the inflated egos of todays pro players would drive Nick batty.

As long as Nick is happy in Baton Rouge I think he will be around for quite a while.

I've never understood this line of reasoning. I know, I know - the more you make, the more you want, but don't you think he and his famly could squeeze by on what he makes here? I realize that $3 million+ per year doesn't go as far as it used to, but still.... :dis:

I also don't think it will be about money, anymore. Maybe several years ago, but not now. With his new 7 year contract for about 2.5 million per year, he and his family will be set for life. I don't think he has to pay a car note or house note either while at LSU.

I like college ball better but you have to admit that the NFL is the ultimate challenge for a player and a coach. Saban is a driven person and at some point may want to see how he handles the greater challenge. It may never happen and I hope it doesn't, but there are many reasons other than money that might tempt a really good college coach to give the NFL a shot. Let's hope if he does go it isn't anytime soon but if it is you have to give him credit for building a solid foundation and raising the bar for LSU football.:thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

It amazes me how well some people know Coach Saban. Someone should tell his wife because some people are wayyyyyy too close to Saban and 'in the know'. :) :) :)

Well, I do have a family, but I manage to support them in a pretty good lifestyle for far less than 1.5 million a year. But, he's got additional income comin in besides his coaching salary (endorsements, TV shows, etc.) I understand your point about stability in the profession, but a coach as talented as Saban will never have to worry about providing for his family ever again,

I do agree with you on the point the he will only be here a few more years - if that long. It's not about the money though. I believe his ultimate passion is to prove he can do it his way and win at the highest level.
