Out of all of the LSU players taken in the NFL draft last month, which players do you think will have the best rookie year and/or career. Personally, I am leaning towards Davis as a rookie because he is stepping into place on a proven team with all the pieces, and he will be able to contribute immediately catching balls from Philip Rivers. To me, the career question is a little harder, because while Jamarcus has the greatest upside, he is still playing on the Raiders, which may limit his production. Let me know what y'all think.
I agree with you. Rookie year: Buster. Maybe the best pure receiver taken in the draft, will fit in great with the Chargers. Career: JaMarcus. Oakland's putting the pieces together, and I think they can get it turned around with the excitement of JaMarcus Russell as QB.
Yeah the problem with Russell is that he has no line in front of him and is stepping into an offense that was historically bad last season. His best shot at having success in his career is to sit all season and watch. If he sits this season then I think his shot at future success is much more likely but again this will depend on how Oak. builds their offense. I know that Buster is stepping into a better offense but for the sake of arguement I will say that Bowe will have more success because he is a more physical receiver and a big problem for rookie WRs is the physical nature of NFL CBs. As for Laron, I think he may have a tendancy to get burned deep in the NFL as his tendancy is to make the big hit and as Roy Williams is finding out in Dallas big hitting S in the NFL have trouble covering the deep ball. However, I hope Laron is that special type of player that has the speed to recover and still coverthe deep ball
He ran 4.35 at the combine, I'd say he's plenty fast enough. Still doesn't gurantee he won't get beat deep. He is going to have a great rookie season, I believe he is going to play strong and not free safety from what I have read: "We're going to classify our safeties this year, free and strong, with Sean (Taylor) being the free and (LaRon) being the strong as he works his way into the lineup," defensive coordinator Gregg Williams told the Washington-area media. "I don't think it will be very long from what I've seen. It looks like No. 30 can play. He has moved around very well. You watch the Sugar Bowl, and he wasn't just trying to win his matchup, he was trying to hunt you down. Those are the kinds of things you like from an attitude standpoint." http://www.nola.com/sports/t-p/index.ssf?/base/sports-30/1179037713234970.xml&coll=1 http://www.nflanswers.com/article.php?story=20070227123349632 Group 10 (DB) -- Top 10 Results: 40-Yard Dash 1. 1. Laron Landry -- easier transition, paired with another All-Pro at safety, top talent 2. Buster Davis -- more polished than Bowe, going to an infinitely better team, and Philip Rivers is about to be the short list of the best QBs in the league 3. Russell -- McCown is heaven sent to allow JR some time to learn, and the o-line time to improve. He'll make an immediate impact when they turn the reins over to him. 4. Bowe -- Not a great QB situation, and the rookie year is notoriously tough for WRs 5. Pittman -- He's got a chance to be a situational player (a la Mark Anderson) and hopefully make the team
The problem I see with Russell is that Al Davis is still in charge of the Raiders, and I think he is well past his prime in finding the right players for his organization (Robert Gallery, anyone?). If someone else is given the reins to Raider nation in the immediate future, then I definitely agree, but until then, I feel that Russell is going to struggle despite his immense talent due to the lack of solid players (let alone playmakers) around him.
The Tiger with the best NFL career will be LaRon Landry. I believe he'll be a multi Pro-Bowl player with the Skins. Offensively, it all depends on JR. I suspect he will turn out fine in a few years and be an above average QB in the league. Otherwise, Craig Davis will be the best. He is in an offense with Antonio Gates and LDT. Norv Turner loves the vertical passing game and he should rack up some nice numbers for a few years.
It's tough to put the blame on the Robert Gallery pick on Al Davis alone. Just about every mock draft and expert was of the opinion that he would be one of the best tackles to come out in years. He was the next Pace/Ogden. Sometimes a bust is a bust and there is nothing you can do about it.
I'll have to go w/ Laron Landry. He is by far the best strong safety to come out this year, and he is walking into a pretty good situation in Washington w/ the opportunity to play along side another great safety. He will have the best rookie season, and the best career, but because of the position he plays, it'll happen w/out much publicity.
