Fellow TigerForum members - just wanted to say what an awesome time I had this past weekend! An Iowa boy's first ever game in Tiger Stadium and I couldn't have scripted it any better :thumb: Team Katt - thanks for putting up with us for the better part of the day  I think my coworker finally started waking up again around gametime!! You guys were great - thanks for the food and good time!! WOW - from seeing the Tigers kick some Hokie tail, getting to high five Shaq as he came thru the crowd, talking a little with Joe Addai, bumping into Tyrus Thomas, etc... it was an incredible evening... Tiger Stadium on a Saturday night, all day tailgating and a lifetime of memories - PRICELESS!!! We are already planning our trip for next year :thumb: :crystal: :helmet: :geauxtige :champs:
I was waiting on your thoughts! I'm so glad that you had a great time! How did you become a LSU fan? Did you feel the B.A-ness that is LSU all the way in Iowa and join up, or do you have ties with the school? Either way- glad to have you!
Strange story - I grew up in Iowa but never had a real fondness for the Hawks or Clones so it seemed I was always searching for a team to support. I started liking the Tigers when Shaq, Chris Jackson, Stanley Roberts, etc... were playing bball. I actually had an opportunity to meet Shaq when a coworker brought me along to a Vandy vs LSU bball game (his son played a couple years for Vandy) - that sealed the deal. On top of that - LSU for some unknown reason was appearing on our college football pick-ems and I always picked them - well, it was a great year for them and I was winning $$$ by picking them when most others wouldn't... I've attended a couple of CWS and have seen the baseball team play a number of times - can't wait for them to get back. So - I haven't been a Tiger fan as long as some of you and the reason behind my support is a little strange but I've been a fan for a long time. I've endured the Capital One bowl taunts for a couple of years but always continued to wear the school colors with pride!! Bringing a couple of coworkers who are big Hawkeye and Husker fans was just the beginning of my quest to convert them into Tiger fans - based on their response to the trip it was a good start!! It was always my goal to make it to a Saturday night game and experience the tradition I have heard so much about - well, I came away extremely impressed by the hospitality, friendliness, and "loudness" of the fans... I now hope to make it back every year and even though it is a long 15 hour drive, it was more than worth it :thumb: If any of you are ever in the Des Moines, IA - don't hesitate to look me up I doubt I can show you the same good time I had but I will do my best!! BTW - I think the NCAA track and field championships are here in town next year - come on up
that's great to hear you had an awesome time. I was in total ecstasy all day long, the atmosphere had a good feel to it with the Hokies there. There was tons of electricity in the air without the underlying feeling of absolute hate for the opposing fans. I thought the VT fans were great and everywhere I looked I saw LSU fans taking them in, sharing some light hearted jabs, and then stuffing them full of food and beverage. I can say without a doubt that was one of the better days of tailgating I've had, everyone seemed like they were just happy to be there enjoying the day and taking it all in.... AND THEN TIGER STADIUM ROCKED!!!!!!!!!
IA, Welcome to TF, and thanks for the story on becoming a Tiger fan!! Cool !!! :tigerhead I became a Tiger fan in 1958, the night of Billy Cannon's Halloween Night Run, which beat Ole Miss and won the national championship for us. My Dad always listened to LSU games on the radio, out in the country, and I was only 6 at the time, not listening. All of a sudden, Dad started yelling in the kitchen, I went in to see what happened. He explained it to me, and I became a Billy Cannon fan, and a Tiger fan for life! Welcome to the club. :geauxtige
I've got big respect for anyone whose favorite team is 1,020 miles away (yea, I google mapped it) and they were not born into a family of LSU fans. :thumb:
