The intermediaries if this story is true is his agent Jimmy Sexton. Jimmy is doing what all good agents do. The one troubling thing is that there is in fact talk through intermediaries. There was an article in the Minneapolis Star Tribune about Nick this morning as well. Adding nothing new--just that he will be a hot property. Best case scenario is that this gets him better terms from LSU. Worst case is that he leaves, which the ESPN story reports as being a long shot, which is good news.
A "media-unfriendly" coach, as Saban was described in another thread, would have a tough time in the NY market. I doubt the Spurrier experience will influence Saban, but it shows that you have to have a real strong desire to be in the NFL to put up with a lot of the crap a college coach is not subjected to, ie "hands-on" owners, personnel directors, general managers, salary cap, free-agency, players more interested in being shown the money than in giving 100%, show-boating antics by players, etc etc etc. But if that is what Nick desires, more power to him. I have confidence that Emmert will bring another winning coach to Baton Rouge. That said, I really hope Nick stays for a while.
In another recent development there seems to be evidence that Lee Harvey Oswald did not act alone.......so what's my point you #$@%-offs ask!? I'll tell you, every job opening in the NFL will always give consideration to Saban, he is a quality coach.....and every job opening will be filled by someone other than Saban until he decides to take it. We have heard this crap ad naseum, nothing personal but it's as old news as there is. It's similar to the way financial publications can always trot out a story on Japan coming out of its recession, if they need to fill space.....and eventually they will be right, but it will have nothing to do with the article.
Quoted by FLY ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just think if Saban leaves, you may end up with Spurrier?????????????????Something to think about ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Worse case scenario, I wouldn't mind this....... I would rather have him on my side than him on the other side of the field.......
Get used to it, winning coaches are going to be mentioned. You also can't blame him if he eventually goes pro, I just hope we have him for a while longer at least.
I was going to say the same thing as Twisted Tiger. Whenever a program finds a gem of a head coach, you'll often hear rumors of NFL offers. Don't sweat it, and hope that your athletic department does its damned-est to keep him in place.
If you were Arliss Sexton ... wouldn't you drum it up for your boy Nick. The guy will be in negrotiations soon ... with millions on the table. Maybe I'm just a dumb baby boomer moneygrubber ... but i see free publicity and leverage and ... mo' money for Nick ... LSU's offer better be SUPER SWEET.
