We need Auburn to lose 2 conference games to win out and take the west. They've still got Arkansas and Georgia to face down the road but the Vols could sure help out...is it too early to be thinking about this???

As far as a fan picking who to root for, I don't think it's EVER too early to start thinking about things like that. Even if LSU were to lose to Georgia or Florida, we would need Auburn to lose as many games as possible, especially to Eastern Division foes.

If the team was worried about such things, I think that would be a bad thing, but as fans, I see nothing wrong with rooting like heck for the Vols.

TOTALLY talking from the fans perspective. The teams job is to focus on their games, period. I'm just suprised with all the topics that wind up on here that this hasn't been brought up yet....I guess once everyone get's the late season tutorials on the state of the BCS etc...these issues get more visibility.

    GO ROCKTOP!!

    No, it's not too early...

We are 1-1 in the league and Auburn is 2-0 with a win over LSU. They showed they are a pretty good team against LSU, and LSU will likely lose at least one of the two roadies against UGA & UF. We need Tennessee to beat Auburn this weekend to help our chances. It is not too early to think like that for us fans. Of course, the players and coaches should only be thinking about UGA.

CFN picks Vols by a FG

    http://www.collegefootballnews.com/sec/2004_Predictions/Oct2.htm

Auburn (4-0) at Tennessee (3-0), 7:45 pm EST ESPN

Why to watch: In a showdown of two of the SEC's three unbeaten teams, the Vols are looking for payback after a 28-21 loss last year that ended up costing them an SEC East title. Auburn won a nail-biting 10-9 classic against LSU to become the favorite in the SEC West race and can't afford any slipups. While there are still several major landmines ahead, a win over the Vols could get the Tiger faithful dreaming of the Orange Bowl with the only two road games left at Ole Miss and Alabama (while still having to host Arkansas and Georgia.) Is this a preview of the SEC championship game? If Georgia slips somewhere along the way, it could be.

Why Auburn might win: After losing Karlos Dansby, Dontarrious Thomas and a slew of other great defensive players, most were assuming the Auburn defense would struggle early on. Nope. The Tigers are ninth in the nation in total defense and second in scoring D allowing a total of 26 points so far with 14 of them coming in garbage time against Mississippi State. Tennessee's run defense has been good, but it didn't stop Louisiana Tech's Ryan Moats cold and still has to prove it can be a brick wall without LB Kevin Simon.

Why Tennessee might win:All the attention is on the Auburn running game with its great backfield, but it's Tennessee who leads the SEC in rushing with an offensive line doing a fantastic job of paving the way for Cedric Houston and the great Volunteer backs. The offense has had few problems in the first three games, even against Florida, marching on the ground to take the pressure off the young quarterbacks. Auburn's offense has been fine and efficient, but it hasn't blown up like Tennessee's. Can Auburn keep up in a shootout?

Who to watch: Tennessee is still playing around with the two quarterback system, but Erik Ainge is growing more and more into a full-time player throwing an unfreshman-like eight touchdown passes and one interception. However, this is a huge SEC game usually meaning the team with the veteran quarterback wins, and Auburn's Jason Campbell has seen it all before. With 613 passing yards and six touchdowns, he has been more effective than ever proving how valuable he is in the late game-winning drive against LSU. The Tiger backfield remains loaded with Ronnie Brown ready to play after resting against The Citadel with a hamstring problem. While Brown and Carnell Williams get all the publicity, Tennessee's Cedric Houston has been every bit as good coming off a 160-yard, two touchdown performance against Louisiana Tech.

What will happen: Auburn's defensive front seven has been tremendous, but Tennessee's offensive line is playing as well as any group in the SEC. While the Volunteer return game has been abysmal, the kicking game will shine with Dustin Colquitt controlling the field position giving the Tigers a long field all game long.

    CFN Prediction: Tennessee 17 ... Auburn 14 ...

Too early? No way! Since we lost to them, we need to be rooting gainst Auburn in all of their conference games, but particularly so in their games against the East teams. Auburn is good, but so is Tenn, and the Vols will be at home. So, I think it's better than 50/50 that the Vols win Saturday. I put their chances at 67%. GEAUX VOLS!

    I predict:

    Tenn 21
    Allburn 17

    LSU 14
    UGA 13

On a local sports radio show this morning, they were saying if Auburn beats the Vols, Auburn will more than likely be favorites in the remainder of their schedule and shoot up the national rankings. For once in my life, my favorite colors other than purple and gold are orange and white.

It would be easier for me to pull for the Tennesseeans if I didn't have to listen to the incessant renditions of rocky top.......Wish Boudleaux would have found something else to do the day he wrote that one. :dis:

LSU's two quarterback experiment made Auburn's suspect defensive front seven look much better than they really are. Tennessee's offense will expose them this weekend.

There is no way LSU should have lost that game to Auburn. Anytime you hold a team to just 10 points on their own home turf you should win that game.

Auburn needs to lose this one. Can't count on Arkansas or Alabama to beat this team. They are better than those teams, and it would be significant upsets if that were to happen. Auburn needs to lose to Tennessee and Georgia, just as we would expect.
