It's been in the news that Colin Powell and other U.S. leaders are in Mexico to endorse a plan to give all illegal immigrants in the US--at least from Mexico--legal status. What are your thoughts and why do you feel this way? I personally don't see what is good about rewarding people for doing something that they shouldn't have been doing in the first place. In addition, it's just going to make illegal immigration that much more of a problem from here on out.
Stupid move by Bush, but the good news is that it will never pass in the House. They shot it down before he was re-elected and will do so again. What a great way to start your second term, a very unpopular battle that has no chance of getting through. Social Security or revising the tax code would have been a much better place to start :dis:
Hey, somebody has to pick 'maters and work in chicken plants. Since the democrats don't want the jobs, the gap has to be filled. Seriously though, this was a big deal during the campaign to the Hispanics, and Bush is delivering on his promise. It worked obviously, because he got a good % of the vote from that group, considering he is republican. Like uscpuke said, it won't pass the House, but Bush gets to keep his word and look like a stand-up guy. It makes no sense otherwise. I think it's just politics. And no, I am not for it.
If they come here by legal means and pay taxes and such I'm all for letting hard working people become citizens. I'm also all for expanding programs to let mexicans work in the US. BUT If you jump the border then you should have no rights and be sent back to where you came from. There should be no reward for breaking the law. I also think that if you're in the country illegally and have a child. That child should not be a US citizen. It's just another alien that should be tossed across the border.
You know there is a huge hispanic contigent that do not want illegal immigrants to become citizens. The ones that made it here legally had to play by the rules, and they feel new immigrants should do the same. I would love to see an actual % of how many hispanics actually favor this.
on most issues i will tell you that i am right and you are stupid. however, on immigration, i really dont have any idea. if i had to guess i would say i am ok with letting whoever wants to come in be a citizen, but who knows, i am not an expert. i am an expert in everything else though. the poll needs an "i dunno" option.
I'll have to get back to you on this one. I live in Central Texas and need a new roof. I don't want to make all the roofers mad right now.
thats the kind of thing that makes me think we should allow lots and lots of mexicans in. free trade. goldengirlfan's roof needs work, mexicans need jobs. i dont like to stand in the way of exchange of goods and services.
