...have probably already seen the email he received that's mentioned at the end of today's update about Reed being offered a contract with the Dolphins, and Jack Hunt taking a physical for them, but I'm just wondering what people besides me were thinking about this scenario. Reed played well for LSU, and did well on the college level, but I didn't think he had the size or athletic ability to go to the next level. Hunt had incredible vision for offenses, and was a great leader, but again I didn't think he had the athletic ability to play DB with the big boys. Then again Saban seemed to enjoy moving people around to different positions. So hypothetically, if either end up signing with Miami, do you see Saban playing them at their college position, or moving them to something else? Do you think Hunt could be a Steve Gleason type special teams player/backup safety or something of that sort? Okay, truth be told I'm just bored at work, so I figured I'd ask.
Hunt is so hard for me to comment on - I pegged him as a liability when he moved into the starting lineup on defense. I ended up looking like the unqualified talent evaluator that I am and, truth be told, Jack Hunt should have an extra diamond in his National Championship ring... Edit: I am deleting my comments because I'm an idiot and thought we were discussing Josh Reed - Ignore me today (or as often as needed).
Being under-sized is the most over-rated thing about professional football. Sam Mills was under-sized, Marc Fields was said to be a tad under-sized, IMO....the guy from A&M on Dallas' D is under-sized.....if Hunt can pack on some pounds and keep his speed up....he could be a legitimate NFL player..
You're not alone. That description given for R Reed fits Josh pretty well, too. Besides, Josh must still have, like, three years left on his rookie contract in Buffalo.
I was really surprised (but deep down happy) when Reed was cut so early at the Falcons camp last year. Alex Gibbs is their O-Line coach and guys like Rodney (smallish, but smart and quick) are the kind he goes after. That's they type of player that he used in Denver and made 1,000 yard rushers the norm regard;ess of who was carrying the ball. He also refuses to use high picks for linemen.
