look great. Saban gets offered over twice the money he is making at the highest level of his profession with control and he has having serious difficulty making a decision. The world is taking notice of what we already know---- it's great to be an LSU Tiger. No matter what happens, we will come out smelling like a rose.
Not to mention he's probably THE most sought after coach. Let's hope if he does leave, that Bertman & Co. can parlay this to LSU's benefit. Excellent point.
Don't know if you can ever really come out smelling like a rose if you lose a coach like Saban, but we'd be as close as you can! Don't know if any of you saw the Fort Worth Bowl halftime show on ESPN, Mark May was saying how the Miami job is everything perceived to be what Saban wants. Trev Alberts actually made a good point to counter May's suggestion that the Dolphins job is the best the NFL has to offer, by saying, "just look at LSU. They're loaded with talent for whoever their next coach will be. Things look good down there." :thumb: But I still hope that Saban says, "I choose LSU!"
Name a coach of Saban's character that can Recruit ... coach ... and command the respect that Nick has ... :dis: ~P~E~E~R~L~E~S~S~ If LSU negotiates and ups his salary to $4MM like I am hearing ... I believe he will stay ... To finish what he's started here at LSU If Saban goes ... LSU will lose its momentum to take THE PREMIER SPOT in College FB ... LSU is guaranteed NOTHING with a Saban departure ... and those in the administration know the Nightmare that lies ahead ... Lessons Learned A new coach will unlikely never measure up to Nick Saban ... but anything is possible ... you're optimistic ... OK ... that's nice ... I say a Saban in hand is worth anything else after you beat the bushes And I'm not alone there ... there's a Skipper on board with me, too
Well, I just got back from some more xmas shopping and some talking heads n ESPN radio where speculating about Saban. Basically they had two views but more or less said Saban was taking the job but going through the motions to satisfy LSU and keep his rep in tact. The first view was Saban was indeed having problems with his family. They are trying to talk him out of it but in the end he will win them over and take the job. The second view was a little bizarre but the guy stated Saban was taking the job and his family was going to back him but he was trying to make himself and LSU look good while departing gracefully. They both agreed that Saban was going to take the job or he would never have dispatched Sexton to finalize the contract. They stated it was unprecidented for an NFL team to work out contract details with an agent, make an official offer and NOT KNOW FOR SURE that it would be accepted. Which does make some sense. So again, take it for whats its worth but these guys seemed reasonable, didnt have anything negative to say about LSU or Saban except they did imply he was covering his basis to keep his rep intact with this public display of consternation about a decision he's already made it.
But still if Saban does leave theres gonna be a lot of coaches that wanna come here....I hope Saban stays and all but if he does leave the program isnt gonna lose a step...we're still gonna be a good team next year no matter who coaches us...
Pretty Good Take, Tigerskin But I think much of the sports world already has taken notice. I have seen several columns by national writers who openly question why Saban is even considering such a move.:thumb: I hope he stays, but I won't hold a grudge if he does. We've experienced what few colleges get to over the last few years, and for that I'll always be grateful. My only hope is that, if he turns this down, all of this NFL talk will die down and other NFL teams will be discouraged from trying to get him at least for a few years. I think we deserve at least that much. I absolutely DREAD the thought of having to go through this again next year with San Francisco, Oakland, Denver, the Giants, the Jets or any of a number of other NFL teams that could be looking for a new coach next year.
It's going to be pretty tough on the LSU fanbase if he does announce he's going to the Dolphins on Christmas eve or on Christmas day. That would feel pretty heartless. I think if he makes an announcement in the next two days it will be that he is staying. If it goes past Christmas I think he's gone.
