MANNING FOR HEISMAN, HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF The last time both LSU and Ole Miss were ranked was in 1970, when the Tigers beat the Rebels 61-17 on Dec. 5 to clinch the Southeastern Conference title. Quarterbacking for Mississippi was none other than Elisha Archibald Manning III (beloved FARCHIE). LSU was 8th, Ole Miss 15th (AP poll) going into that night game. Farchie won't ever admit it, but that game ... which featured an unbelievable LSU Defense ... scarred Farchie for life ... and prevented him from winning the Heisman Trophy. This was a most memorable game for me as a young man in Tiger Stadium. I can still hear the bloodthirsty howls from the crowd as Manning, his arm in a cast, ran for his life. He was constantly harrassed and punished by Ronnie Estay, Casanova & Company, that rabid pack of bloodthirsty animals. The night game in Tiger Stadium was televised and Manning was being hyped for that Heisman trophy award. Rumor hadit (and I never got flat denials from former players when I asked them) that LSU asst. coaches for Charlie Mac (without his knowledge) used bullwhips on a few of the players earlier in the week to motivate them. Players were strapped onto tackling dummies and bull whipped while they looked at a picture of their Ole Miss OL opp and the Archie song played (you remember the Archie song... the down is third and 10 ... Archie takes it in ... he plays for Ole Miss). If this actually happened, we'll never really know unless someone fesses up. Irregardless, America watched as their media darling and FOLK SONG HERO was chased and mauled. Farchie had broken his wrist a month earlier and had no business being in that game. Toward the end, when it was over and his Heisman hopes and Ole Miss title hopes were smashed, they pulled him out of the game ... the entire crowd responded with cheers and some boos, and this ovation was unbelievable. LSU got an SEC tile & an Orange Bowl. Farchie got nightmares of that night & no heisman. He's had 32 years to stew on it ... and RETRIBUTION is his plan. FARCHIE will be up in the BOX with a headset on "DIRECTING" his little clone. Both have watched hundreds of hours of LSU FILM. He knows LSU defensive formations and exactly how to play the best percentages. Look for tons of short passes and screens offset by slants, quick draws and FARCHIE's play action/fakes. This is judgment day for LSU football. Again, everyone in the media expects Ole Miss & Manning to expose the Tigers as pretenders, good but not great. They've even said that Farchie could get the Heisman with a win over LSU and the SEC East Champ, albeit a disgrace to Symons of Texas Tech, the best QB/passer in America. I have no doubt Eli is as good as Jason White, but not Symons. The Heisman will go to a Top 10 Team, most always has and most always will. Symons will not get the award, and he smoked FARCHIE in their head-to-head matchup earlier in the year. Ole Miss lost the game as well to a 4-3 Big 12 Squad. How will that look for an SEC Champ? It's been a terrific ride for LSU ... and all good things must end. This Manning has no broken arm. This Manning has another Manning "watching his back" with headset on. This Manning has a supporting cast and a decent enough OL to win. Manning will lead Mississippi to a 61-17 score.
