Owens and Weston will be Sophs, Charles Johnson, Marcus Howard and Brandon Miller will be Juniors and Ray Gant will be a Senior. But Owens and Weston are just sound athletes. Owens played quite a bit this year when Golston was out. Crawford will play next year and I hope he stays at least until he is a Junior before going pro. But this will all be ignored by the AJC and CNN who have jumped back on the Urban Meyer band wagon. The media is right back at saying how Meyer is putting together a superior team.
I don't know... I never played college or professional football to be able to compare... but the thing that most people forget is that roughly 75% of this team will NEVER have the chance to play on Sundays. Of the 25% that have the chance, maybe one or two players will be in a starting role where they'll be playing every game. It's not a poor excuse to say that 11 games in 9.54245 weeks takes a toll on players. This COLLEGE team was tired. It was blatantly obvious to me that this team was going through the motions. I knew it would catch-up. I think a poorer excuse for the way we played down the stretch is the fact you said "We just didn't get a break all game long..." That is a helluva lot poorer of an excuse than 11 games in 9 point whatever weeks, IMO. 2 of the games were "practices," however App State was a formidabe opponent that threw everything at us. I would think that blowing a team out a la UNT is also a physically daunting task. Sorry for the longish post, but I get irrate when people say, "if this were the NFL they'd have to play such and such weeks straight." That's BS because most of this team is NOT in the same shape as an NFL player and will NEVER be. /rant Oh yea and if LSU comes out the way they did for UGA, I'd really like to start hearing the excuses for lack of preparation and emotion for the two most important games of the season. I can understand blaming the first 11 games' performances on the hurricanes, but for the SECG and Peach Bowl game against a great Miami team, there are NO excuses... none.
First off, the Cotton Bowl and the Indy bowl are 2 entirely different animals, so your attempt at a biting analogy failed miserably. Second, whether it's a "losers mentality" depends upon how you choose to look at it. Miles stated publicly that he felt he owed it to the seniors to try and get them into the best bowl possible. He saw the handwriting on the wall as to the bowl scenario for LSU should they not win the SECCG. I'd call that a coach who cares about and looks out for his players. Finally, I am much happier watching LSU play Miami tomorrow night than I would be at 10:30 in the freakin' morning against anybody.
Well said. This is a very tough game for any coach - facing the number 1 passing defense in the country & your starting QB is hurt... If the game is a close loss, Miles gets some credit but the questions are still there. If he wins big, some will still doubt him but it will go a long way in convincing fans to like him. If he losses bad, the QB issue will be mostly ignored & it will be a rough summer & spring for the coaching staff.
I give my nod to Les and his staff, I was impressed. Well played game and nice to see my boys playing some great ball again.
I'm hear to say that this was the most prepared LSU team I've seen since the 2003 NCG. Great job to Les, Bo and Jimbo for having these guys ready to play. I might have been wrong about Les. :geauxtige
