The BCS was started (I think) to take away the subjectivity of the two existing polls (coaches and writers). I mean, teams finished #1 because that's the way coaches and writers FELT should be #1. Hence, split titles would happen every so often. Then the BCS was formed..the goal was to take into account many different things..many different items including these two polls..so that the teams in the title game weren't there only for subjective reasons. OU and LSU finished 1 and 2...USC finished 3rd. Hey, why was USC #1 in the human polls. Well, because writers and coaches felt that their loss to Cal was in OT, blah blah. the BCS successfully has taken emotion out of it..which is good. Sure, we need a playoff...no doubt..but the BCS is indeed BETTER than what we had before. The BCS computers spit out OU and LSU as the top two teams, and I can't wait for sunday's game..the winner being the best team in the nation. Of course, Geaux Tigers!! I'm excited that LSU has a great shot of winning and I can't wait to buy my LSU national championship hat and shirt monday morning online.
AP poll matters when you lose. Hence, USC early loss and LSU and OU loss later kept USC higher ranked.
We all know this about the BCS but the problem is the humans want to abandon thier part of the bargain. I hear all of these same people saying it will be fixed but I don't see anyway system can be fixed since the humans are biast and maybe in bed with Cal or UCLA next year. The BCS does work but the humans won't let it much longer.
I think the BCS did what it was designed to do. The problem is that there will always be controversy with the system b/c of the human polls. A playoff is inevidable. I'm mixed about a playoff, but that seems to be where it is headed.
Its classic. Everything is working out great with the BCS...up until the final week. Everyone is happy, its working. Wait a minute, Truman didin't win...I mean, USC isn't in the top 2. Something must be wrong. Can't possibly be happening. The BCS is broken. It didn't produce the results we all wanted. Hurry fix it. What's that, we can't change it now at the end of the season? What can we do? (USC Alum): Got an idea. Let's abandon this BCS thing since its obviously broken. Let's go back to naming our own NC. (Another USC Alum): Yeah, thats it. USC is the NC. Let's not even play the other game. Lets just call it an overpriced scrimmage. (USC Alum): Yeah. That'll quiet everyone else down and make us feel really good about our decision. (AP Writers): AP Writers WIN, AP Writers WIN!!! I mean USC - Nat'l Champions!!!
That's pretty much how it happened! USC was behind the BCS all season long until they were outside looking in. Now all of a sudden it's broken and doesn't work.
