Ok, so JR is 99.99% gone, so for next year we have two options. 1. Flynn starts having only one year of eligibility. He has been patient, waited his turn, and played well when given the chance for the most part. All this when he could have very well transferred and started at another school. 2. RP starts having three years of eligibility and an extra year to develope into what he is suposed to be. We have most of the big games at home, making it a favorable schedule. Again two ways to look at this. 1. A chance at a championship run with the more experienced Flynn, or 2. Put all your stock in RP and let him play his first year with the easier schedule to build confidence and experience for the future. He may turn out to be good enough to get it done now, but you won't know until you give him the ball. IMO, the smart thing to do is turn the offense to RP, but the fair thing to do is let Flynn start, after all he has earned it. The way Miles seems to favor seniors, I think he will start Flynn, but I don't know if that is the best decision. Wanted to see others opinions on the subject.
I personally *want* to see RP start. However, I believe it is probaly wise to have Flynn starting. Experience means everything and Flynn is the only one out of the two with meaningful game experience. I am assuming that the race will be pretty close for the starting job. If that is the case, then there is no reason why RP should not be given every opportunity to come in sometimes during meaningful situations of game. One need look no farther than UF for an example of how this can be done in a manner that is fair to both players.
I'm torn here. Agree that Flynn has earned a shot at starting, but RP has patiently (and quietly) waited his turn and I don't know how long that will last. I want to see what RP can do, but Flynn deserves a fair shot. What I think will happen (as does Salty) unless RP is a clear cut winner in preseason, is that Flynn will start but we will get a generous helping of RP. No question that Les is loyal to his seniors and that's not a bad thing.
What about employing the "Shockley" system?? Have Flynn as the official starter and put in RP for a series in each half. I also think that they should have been using him how the Panthers used DeAngelo Williams in the latter half of this past season. They should also definitely do that next year if Flynn is declared the starter.
I tend to agree. Les has to think about the future and Perrilloux needs PT. But he doesn't need all of the pressure that can overwhelm a sophomore QB with little experience. Flynn is a steady senior and Florida has shown that you can play two quarterbacks, taking advantage of complimentary skills.
That makes a lot of sense and I would like to see that too. Dam, we have a good problem there huh?? Fortunate to have such a problem if which star to take the roll.
Our two QB's are two similar in styles to run a "two QB system" like UF. The only way I see this working is to pick one guy and stick with him. That is why I think this will be a very difficult decision for Miles to make.
The only way this works is if both players are quality people that are willing to put the team ahead of themselves. So far, both of these young men have shown that and that is a credit to themselves and their families. This is a lot better situation than the one Nutt has in Arkansas.
If this sounds ignorant, it's because I'm fairly ignorant about our players that don't start, so forgive. I understand that RP and MF are similar in that they are both more mobile than JR in general, but isn't MF more of a passer than RP? I thought RP was more of a running QB. Like I prefaced, I'm ignorant on this one, just wondering.
