The problem with PC and USC I don't have a problem if they want to claim 1/2 of the NC, they were voted no 1 in the AP. The problem I have with Pete Carroll is him trying to lobby the coaches to break their contract and vote for USC as the NO. 1 team, he wants it all. His school and all the other school's agreed to make the BCS winner the NC. That's my problem with PC and USC.
Exactly My problem isn't with Pete Carroll or anyone saying that they're as good or better than we are, and saying that they wish there were a playoff. It's the effort by Carroll and his whole university (with the obvious approval of the Pac-10, which isn't stopping him) to repudiate their contractual agreement that makes me so mad (something I think sets a terrible example for the young men USC is supposedly molding). I know that if we did that the SEC commissioner would be all over us. I hope Mike Slive gives it to Lou Holtz. It isn't his right to protest the BCS in that manner.
Maybe I missed it, but do we have actual evidence that Pete Carroll lobbied for other coaches to vote for USC in the Coaches poll? Or is this just rumor, conjecture or hearsay?
I'm not saying he lobbied I don't know that Carroll lobbied anyone, except insofar as he said publicly and often that his team is co-National Champions. I am saying that he is repudiating the result of the BCS by saying his team is the equal of the Sugar Bowl champions. And there was plenty of that talk, including on the Heisman presentation show.
Based on principle I think the 3 votes that wen tot USC in the Coached poll should be revoked from the persons voting that way. They breached a contract that they aggreed to. True they may have felt USC was #1 but they had an agreement and it should be binding.
Holtz probably thought that he was voting for South Carolina and not Southern Cal. Considering that he is about 1000 years old, it is somewhat understandable. Pity we don't play them again next year because I think that the Tigers would like to voice their opinion on his vote. Geaux Tigers!
Agreed Also, even though Pete Carroll doesn't have a vote presently, he shouldn't be allowed to have one in the future. If he wants to scream that USC is the better team, that's fine, but all this self-proclaimed national championship business is ridiculous. It looks like the Pac-10 would try to shut him up but I guess they think it's great publicity for their pathetic excuse of a conference. :geaux:
Anybody stop to think why there needs to be a vote. If it was contractual, and agreed upon, a vote seems to be moot.
Re: The problem with PC and USC I do have a problem with the staged National Championship Trophy presentation. The A.P. trophy in the past was PROBABLY FedExed and used as a paperweight as it has NEVER been the symbol of the National Championship since the advent of the BCS. Now, they have this big trophy presentation???? Next time I'm in L.A., I'm going to go to the USC A.D., ask them to show me the National CHampioship trophy. When they show me that plastic piece of crap, I'm going to say, "What's that? I'm looking for the REAL National Championship trophy - you know, the one on T.V. that is RECOGNIZED UNIVERSALLY as THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY." Of course, the ONLY answer to that would be, "Oh, well I guess you'll have to go to BATON ROUGE to see the REAL National Championship Trophy!!!"
why there was a vote They weren't supposed to be able to vote for #1. The ballot was supposed to list only 2-25 or whatever. I don't know how they got around that, unless they listed LSU #2 instead of #1, leaving out USC.
