I think that a good argument could be made for LSU being ranked #2, but USC has a good argument as well. I would rather take our shot at Oklahoma despite the fact that I think we would probably lose. We don't control those things. Unless you want to mount a campaign to contact the football writers in the AP Poll and have LSU's AD contact the football coaches for the ESPN poll, we have no control. It will be difficult for us to win the last two games. Arkansas is a little underrated for an 8-3 team, but our run defense should be able to handle their rushing game. Arkansas also has to travel to Baton Rouge on a short week. It will be difficult to beat Georgia twice in one year, especially in the Georgia Dome. Why isn't the SEC Championship a rotating site between Tampa, Jacksonville, Atlanta, Nashville, and New Orleans? If we do get to a BCS Bowl, we might get lucky and be able to play West Virginia or Ohio State. If we win out and Oklahoma wins out, we will be 13-1, SEC Champions, BCS Bowl Champions, and unanimous #2 in the nation. Unarguably the second best season in our 100 plus year history of football. Looking at it, there is alot better chance of us losing one of the last three games than what we are worried about. Oklahoma should probably get the National Championship without even playing a championship game. They had a season that is without peer.
I believe we will beat Arkansas but lose to Georgia in the Championship game. Still give us the Fiesta Bowl and my hope is a rematch against Texas.
BCS doesn't reward losing late, esspecially championship games, if we lose the seccg, which i don't think we will, we would not get an invite from a BCS bowl. But we have to get past the pigs first!
I don't think we can play Texas in a bowl again this season. Here is why. I don't know if it is two BCS bowls games in a row or just two Bowl games in a row. I'm thinking its any two bowl games in a row. Since we played the horns last season in the Cotton Bowl this would be the second bowl we play them in a row, so we would get moved to another BCS bowl assuming that we don't let our guard down and fail to make the BCS.
max, if there was a "stupid quote of the week" contest, that would win it! A lot of people wanted to hand Miami the championship trophy last year, but Ohio State took it home.
If USC manages to stay at #2, I'd love to see LSU play in the Rose Bowl against Michigan. We don't get to play Big-10 teams much and the Rose Bowl is the only major bowl that LSU has never played in. But the Sugar Bowl would be sweeter. I think the Tigers will win out the SEC, but I don't trust the BCS formulas to get us in the NC game. Late-season losses are worse than early-season losses. If Oklahoma loses its last game, they will drop to 3rd at best, maybe lower.
One additional "positive" -- Nick will have some "unfinished business," so the writers cannot all say, "He's accomplished all that he can in Baton Rouge."
The Oklahoma / Kansas State matchup in the Big 12 Championship will be a good one. I think Kansas State can smell the blood in the water right about now. KSU is thinking Big 12 Championship...
This is what it looks like as of this morning according to a local radio show. If LSU win and USC wins out, because of the SEC, USC will be going to the Sugar Bowl. LSU will be going to the Fiesta Bowl. If Miami beats Pittsburgh, LSU will face Florida State in the Fiesta. If Pittsburgh beats Miami, LSU will face Ohio State in the Fiesta.
