When I look back over the BCS era those two '11 teams rank in my top five. There are very few teams that could have beaten them in BCSNC history.
I would have liked to have seen Oregon play Bama. We beat Oregon as we said due to our speed, AND due to Tyrann. Without the turnovers ... who knows if we win that game? They were huge. But yes both Bama and LSU were elite in the sense of ... up there with some of the best teams ever. In fact, if LSU doesn't shit the bed in the title game I would be saying they had the best season of any college football team ever (note I did not say best team, just best season).
I just left a restaurant. Alabama's #61 walked in, Anthony Steen, he dated my oldest daughter for 2 yrs. I have my LSU hat on and stopped and asked him about his fishing season this summer, we both fish the same waters. I try not to talk too much football with him just because that's what everybody else does. One of his kin folk can't help but mention me getting my head shaved after the 2011 NC game. I just looked at dude and said " ShIt happens. Your either a bandwagon or a true fan. 38-24. Remember those numbers. That's what LSU is going to beat Bama by next weekend." Steen just kinda grinned. I told big A he's been looking good on offense. I also asked about his draft expectations. He said 2 round probably. I wished him good luck in the NFL, patted his back and left. Next weekend is payback bitches!
What gets me is the way the last 2 games went before the national championship game. Jefferson stunk up the building against Arkansas, Mathieu's punt return and the defense won that game, and then a carbon copy against Georgia in which Mathieu and the D won again. Jefferson sucked worse in his final 3 games as an LSU Tiger than he did his entire career. In fact the only thing he did right in 3 games was tackle that dude after he tried to pitch it to Ware. I still contend Les knocked some chick up in Louisiana when he was recruiting for Michigan back in the day, that chick ended up being JJ's mom. The only person who ever sucks that bad and still plays is the coach's son.
That is too funny LaSalle. Really great comment and should be the last word on the subject. Thanks for putting a humorous cap on it.
Saban is going to be featured on "60 Minutes" this Sunday night, November 3rd. CBS is doing a feature story on him, whom they call in the promos, "The Best College Football Coach in America".
