The Atlanta paper has an article reporting that the NCAA has sunk to a new low, if that's possible. One of the Boise St. player's dad is serving in Iraq. Some Georgia fans wanted to raise funds to bring him home for the Boise St. vs. Ga. game in Athens. The NCAA says they can't because the Georgia fans would be considered Boise St. boosters. What in the hell is the NCAA coming to? Somebody needs to overthrow the bunch of idiots. :angryfire :angryfire www.ajc.com
Well, that's kind of a tricky situation with the way the NCAA defines a "booster". I mean, if you take away the circumstances here (that the dad is in Iraq & that it's an OPPOSING team's fans) - then you can see why they would be against it. If they NCAA were to let this go, then other teams could try & use this to "get around the system". It's a tough situation.
I think the fans should call their bluff and do it anyhow. I can't imagine the NCAA wanting the backlash this would cause. I bet it would even get Congress' attention. There is a precedent of calling their bluff. Around 1993, an Auburn player (Greg Pratt) died in a tragic accident. The funeral was in Montgomery, about 60 miles away. Auburn wanted to rent a bus to take players to the funeral. The NCAA said no. Coach Pat Dye and Auburn did anyhow and the NCAA didn't do a damn thing.
The NCAA is vindictive against critics. It ain't a good idea to rile them much. Remember how they hounded Dale Brown and Jerry Tarkanian for years until they finally found something to stick and ended their careers. They've been laying for Bama for years, too. Any school that crosses the NCAA is going to regret it in the long run, if history tells us anything. Something ain't right up there.
To me, The NCAA has about as much common sense as Congress and the rest of our government these days. If congress has the time and interest in looking after baseball's interest you would think they would look at the Nazi faggots from the NCAA. Yes, I used this language because I hate the NCAA and their biast, their stupid rules don't apply the same across the board! :angryfire Congress aint much better either...
The NCAA has for all pratical purposes has become the government with all the red tape and bureaucratic "bs" that comes with it. Stick to the cheaters not fans from an opposing school that are trying to do something nice for someone serving our country. I really wonder where we are headed at times.
Dude, you are on the slippery slopes of sanity EVERY DAY, and it freaking cracks me up! One really does have to question the leadership at the NCAA when their decisions are so consistently bad...for years! The vindictiveness that Red points out seems to be very very true. I'm guessing that's not the example they should want to set for the youth they seek to nurture.
Just a thought... Isn't the NCAA an "association" of member schools who voluntarily agree to abide by it's rules? With one ridiculous ruling after another, and on and on, I think it's about time that a couple of powerful conferences (like the SEC and Big XII maybe?) get together, secede from the NCAA and create their own new "association". You KNOW the other schools and conferences are just dying for someone to have the kahunas to jump first, and most will follow the opportunity to get away from the "NaziAA." With the money, political connections and talent in those 2 or 3 major conferences, it could work with no problem. Yeah, maybe a year with no major TV contract, but that wouldn't last for long -- the networks would be all over them if it IS some of the big conferences. What do y'all think? :thumb:
The only thing that I like about the NCAA is the way they slap Bama around every 4-5 years. :geauxtige
I think it is only a matter of time before you see the major conferences, SEC, Big Ten, Big 12, ACC, and maybe PAC 10 split from the NCAA and do their own thing.
