Just thought I'd keep the college hoops in discussion, as I saw this quickie on the LA Tech program. In particular, it points out the fact that Karl Malone now serves as a "volunteer assistant coach" for LA Tech. Interesting. Also of course it mentions the job that Nikita Johnson has done recruiting, bringing Rolle, Wright and Olu Ashaolu (must have backed off commitment to Rutgers) to the program. I'm sure there are some behind the scenes work that folks like Shaq' do for LSU, but should there be more? http://community.foxsports.com/blogs/goodmanonfox/2007/08/09/The_Mailman_Helping_Alma_Mater I just saw Shaq on his fit challenge show, and there was none other than Dale Brown, sitting in the limo going to meet with the governor of Florida. There is something to be said about the pure "human" element of coach-recruit relationship. It's something that I do suspect is a weakness of Brady, even as a Brady supporter I'll be the first to admit. The LSU program has in some ways overachieved and some ways underachieved since Dale, but one thing is clear--the man steering the ship is committed to discipline, defense, no-nonsense and preparing his guys for the NBA and life, and little of the niceties and international do-gooding of the Brown era. As was the path to be given the backlash from Daddy Dale, now we will see if it equals long-term consistent success for the future. This season certainly will be another test for the coaching skills of Brady and staff. But, I wonder if the human skills needs to also be improved. And, I'll put in another shameless plug to go out and recruit a former LSU NBAer to join our staff. Randy Livingston comes to mind... :geauxtige :bball: :champs: LSU IS A BASKETBALL SCHOOL. BE A FAN.
I always thought Dale Brown was a class act and good all around person. He was a great recruiter and motivator. His x's and o's left something to be desired, though.
