was 1986. LSU, an 11 seed, knocked off Purdue, a 6 seed, in double overtime in the (Pete Maravich) Assembly Center. That was the last year in which schools were allowed to be seeded in brackets played in their home gym. LSU then knocked off 3 seed Memphis State on Anthony Wilson's shot at the buzzer. The next victim for the Tigers was 2 seed Georgia Tech, playing in front of its own partisan crowd in the Omni in Atlanta. The Tigers then beat top seeded Kentucky to advance to the Final Four, where LSU lost to eventual national champion Louisville (and "Never Nervous" Pervis Ellison).

This year, the magical road includes Purdue then likely games against 1, 4 or 5 and 2 seeded teams, including the regional final against a likely team from the SEC East in Florida.

    Can history repeat itself?
