A friend of mine told me a nice story about Miles. Last summer an LSU alumni or foundation group in a rural north La. parish had their annual get together and of course Miles and his family flew in and had to be retrieved at Shreveport and driven about 30 miles away to the deal. My friend got the job, picked them up, and drove them to the function. Weather got bad so they had to stay at his house that night. Next day, they went to a nearby camp/lake, spent the day, decided they were having such a good time they stayed an additional day. None of this matters but here is what does. My friend said Miles was the most polite, genuine guy he'd ever been around. Said Miles doted over his own family, spent time with anyone who came around them, only talked football when asked, but spent most of his time talking about every other subject under the sun and being genuinely interested in anything anyone brought up, football or not. My friend, who is an attorney, said he was so impressed with Miles' sincerity, kindness, being able to adapt to a bunch of N. La. rednecks like us, that he could not believe such a guy could be a football coach. All that said, no wonder he's doing a good job selling LSU and the football program.
Nice post and thankfully our fans are recognizing those qualities as well as potential recruits and their parents. They are important characteristics not only in recruiting but also in representing LSU........He's a keeper! :thumb:
My niece was on the same swim team as Les' daughter. My brother and sister-in-law got to know both Les and his wife. Both said you could not ask for nicer people, salt of the earth BUT Les is veeeeeeeeery competetive ! I like that !
Quite possibly one of the best posts I've read on TF in my 4 years plus here. Thanks. We got GOOD. :thumb: :geauxtige
I have to admit, I wasn't a big fan when he first came here... but like a lot of people I've warmed up a lot to him. When he brings an NC here he will be loved like Saban was in 2003
Auburn fan here, but I think Les does not get the credit he deserves. I honestly do not think Nick could have held up during the '05 season handling the Katrina logistical issues. With what LSU had to go thru and the way Les handled it, shows 100% class and 100% being a good human. We have a kid named Alonzo Horton from New Orleans. He thought his dad and brothers died in New Orleans. He thought this for over a week until he was able to find out that they survived. That was very emotional for me, let alone the team and coaches. That was 1 kid and you guys had 20 such stories. What Les did with that team still amazes me. I honestly do not know if he is a great coach or not, but he is a great person and that is more important anyway.
I didn't realize this sooner and feel a little uncomfortable about it, but I talked with one of my family members who knows him just from meeting him a few times and he said Les Miles is the nicest guy you'll meet. I mean, look at our recruiting class. Players love him. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt, since he has won 11 games in his first two years. I need to grab a Les shirt before Wednesday. Geaux tigers.
