There is always talk about who is LSU's main rival? Is it Auburn, Tulane, Ole Miss? The LSU-Arkansas rivalry is something that has been a little forced on the fans of both schools in my opinion. I know LSU-Arkansas played each other regularly way back in the early 20th century. More games like Friday's game will only help this game become a heated rivalry like those listed. Anyway, the winner of this game receives the Golden Boot, the ugliest POS trophy around. They should either get a new trophy or get rid of it. It's a monstrosity.
It was created to encourage people to care about a game that nobody cared about. Now that both teams have become pretty good, it has become a game to look forward to and not just because it gives tailgaters an excuse to cook a whole hog before the game.
That's pretty much sums this series up. I think most Tiger fans lack a hatred for Arkansas like they have for an Ole Piss or the Barners. We really don't have a reason to think of them as a rivalry. It's just always an important and usually good game.
If the Piggies stay the course and or battling us for the West along withbAU, it will become more and more of a rivalry. I think the fact we never get to go to their campus takes some of the edge off of it every other year though. Arkie should schedule two non conference games in Little Rock so our game could be in Fayetteville.
My Razorback co-worker here in Plano this morning was wearing the ugliest black sweater with a bright red razorback on it. She's been rubbing my face in the smack about the game for a week now. She told me she was wearing the sweater for me...
That is sweet. The Hogs don't get that many oppurtunities to talk smak. Get that LSU sweater ready for Monday. :geauxtige
If LSU can pull off the win this year, it will go a long way to heating up the rivalry from the Arkansas side. This is there season. It's a special season like 2003 was for us. If things fall right, they will have a chance for the national title. That's what their fans see on the line in this game. Beating them here will grow a strong dislike for LSU. If we have a few more really meaningful games with them, I could see this rivalry becoming pretty big. I don't know if it will ever be on the level of Ole Miss, Auburn, or Alabama, but it will get to be a big game.
Maybe. But in 2002 we went to Little Rock with a chance to go to the SECCG if we beat them and we lost 20-21. I'm sure tiger fans remember that game but I don't know if it heated the rivalry up any. How many games like this does it take to create a rivalry? Is it too late? Maybe we should find a barn in Little Rock and burn it down.
Living as close as I do to the dreaded border (where the people who we do not speak of live) it's always been an important game. Suffer a loss, and we have to hear about it for the next 12 months. Get a win, and all of the pig plates start disappearing from the front of their station wagons. It's important from a recruiting standpoint also, up here anyway. I would like to see a roasting pig smiley. Something over an open flame.
LSU doesnt have a rival. no matter what anyone says. each fan may have a team they hate more, but definately no clear rival. arkansas needs to get more consistently good and we need time to get some history. ole miss and tulane suck. auburn and florida both have rivals and there is nothing more pathetic than a rivalry not being mutual (see TxAM)
