I have updated this post accounting for the Boise State win over Hawaii, a game that ended at about 2:30 in the AM CST. By now you know that the OU/Kansas State game has thrown everything into kaos. In case anybody doesn't know, this was NOT a good thing for LSU. First, let's take a look at the human polls: My projections: AP 1) USC (35 first place votes) 2) LSU (30 first place votes) 3) OU (no first place votes) 4) Michigan Coaches 1) USC (40 first place votes) 2) LSU (23 first place votes) 3) OU (no first place votes) 4) Michigan Here are some comments on why I came up with these projections 1) The AP and Coaches love USC too much and will keep them first. I may be wrong with the AP and LSU finish #1, but the Coaches are harder to budge (notice the spread in first place votes much closer in AP). 2) OU will not go below #3 since everyone else has 2 losses. Note: If OU drops to #2 in either poll and LSU is 3rd, LSU will end up 3rd in the BCS. Here is what I project to be the final BCS standings for OU, LSU and USC: ......................Human.....Computer......SOS.......QW.....Loss.......Total 1) OU...............3.0..............1.00......... .44......-.60......1..........4.84 2) LSU..............2.0..............1.83.........1.20...... .00.......1.........6.03 3) USC..............1.0..............3.00........1.48...... .00.......1.........6.48 Comments: 1) This is the worst situation that the BCS could find itself in. The #1 team in the AP/Coaches polls will not make it to the Sugar Bowl, whereas the team that couldn't even win it's conference championship will. 2) Kansas State will finish 10th in the BCS, Miami OH will be 11th, and Georgia will end up 12th (thanks to LSU). 3) LSU is #1 in 1 computer poll, #2 in 3 others. USC is #2 in 3 polls and #4 in the other. Oklahoma is #1 in 3 polls, #2 in the other 4) This scenario requires LSU to finish #2 in all 7 computer polls (which is what I project....although LSU need only win 6)
Thanks man, we are all waiting!!!!!!! This Boise St team is not too bad, 24-14 over HAW. I think we made a statement tonight that will be rewarded in the polls, I do not think SC is a dead locked #1 Sunday.
Something tells me SC won't be #1 in both polls. While they had a great season . . . all 3 teams have one loss. Only Sc's came against an unranked team. OKLA and LSU played much tougher teams, that has to count for something when the #1 team losses and #2 and #3 are so close. OU might drop to 4 or 5, it is not out of the question. I take it that Boise St is still important, and if HAW losses doesn't SC's SOS get even worse. How can SC be ranked the #1 team when they will have the softest schedule of the 3 one loss teams. A lot is going to change, but someone will be getting screwed. I'm hoping it is OU, of the 3 teams today SC and LSU looked like NC contenders. Here are my predictions: AP: #1 SC #2 LSU #3 Mich #4 Okla Coaches: #1 LSU #2 SC #3 Okla #3 Mich
Why will OKLA stay at #3 AP/ESPN? Why won't they drop to #4/#5? I don't believe they stay #3 with a SUCKAZZ performance "routed" by K-State ... I thought K-State would win ... but shite. And, HOW DO THEY STAY #1 in the COMPUTER POLLS?
I have a hard time seeing OU falling below MICH even if we can make a strong case for it in the way OU lost. MICH has two losses. Don't see it happening. I think OU might get slapped in the NYTimes poll because of their emphasis on games that occur at the end of the season, but OU still has SOS. Anyway, if the projection is right, we are ripe for a possible split championship. Let's say that LSU and OU meet in the Sugar and USC goes into the Rose #1 in the human polls. If USC wins, they will not fall from the #1 to the #2. I think it is the AP that has to vote for the BCS winner, so we would end up with a split championship. Nuts. Especially when the two best teams are sitting right there at 1, 2, (LSU/USC) in most people's minds.
