I think this year's final BCS results will be the nail in the coffin for this very flawed system. It started earlier this year with the Congressional hearings, and it will end with a controversial #2 team playing for the NC this year. The media should not be talking about Ohio St jumping USC or LSU, because in the opinions of the media and coaches Ohio St is the #4 team in the nation. If both LSU or USC wins out, Ohio St should remain the #4 team in the nation. The reason they will jump LSU and USC is because the BCS utilizes so called "experts" polls that are mega biased. Case in point this week's Texas and Tennessee rankings in the "experts" polls. The BCS is all about money and what team will present best to the national media to market. It is obvious LSU is not this team. Hopefully this will be the last year of the BCS, at least as we know it. I would much rather see split poll national champions than this BCS crap. Sorry to rant, but this week's BCS rankings stirred my emotions, and I hate to see ANY team, much less my beloved Tigers, get screwed out of what they rightfully earned. :cuss: :lsug:
The BCS is with us for a long time...The proponents will use last year as their reasoning. It worked last year. Sure, it was just one year, but it shows that their intention was correct (at least to them). Get used to the BCS BS...
I read today that the current BCS contracts expire in 2005. If both this and the next season end in controversy. They well have to change something... I hope. I don't like the idea of getting congress involved in the BCS. I would rather leave it like it is than have that happen. I can see it now Tulane does go to the title game they appeal it to the supreme court. They get awarded the National Championship five years later. Ironically it is two years after they drop all sports programs in favor of water ballet. Soon presidential nominees to supreme court get polled on where they stand on football rankings instead of real issues. Not long after this nominees are blocked not because they are pro-life but anti-SEC. The BCS hearings make front page on both Time and Sports Illustrated. The story lead in reads as “Not since the hanging chads...” OK, I am being a little sarcastic. The link about the contact expiring in 2005 http://www.collegebcs.com/bcsfaq.html
The BCS is meant to be used as a tool at the end of the season to find the #1 and #2 teams in the country. Checking the BCS polls before the end of the season is meaningless, those formulas need the end of season results to be fully accurate, and until then you will get strange rankings and teams ranked higher than they deserve. If we win out, we will be fine. We basically have 3 playoff games in 14 days so that should keep all the playoff fans happy, the BCS will work itself out at the end of the season. This is why an undefeated season in college football is so special, you win all your games (if you are a BCS conference team) and you are basically in the NC, no questions asked.
Posted on another board... It doesnt matter who "will" lose. That is all guesswork at this point. The BCS computers are a joke as of RIGHT NOW. What in the world did Michigan and LSU do to the computers? Miami was still ranked very high after their one loss, and because that one loss was to Virginia Tech, VT was ranked very high. So now that Tennessee beats Miami they are ranked really high. Appearently the key to getting computer sympathy is to beat Miami. The problem is, Miami now has TWO losses in the last two weeks, so why is Tennessee getting all the love from the computers for beating a team that is 0-2 in the last two weeks? Miami beat Florida State so i guess beating Florida State is the key to making Maimi so prized. But wait! Florida State just got beaten for the second time as well, so what gives in making a victory over beating Miami or Florida State so important? As far as these Maimi (Ohio), TCU and Bowling Green rankings in some of these computers, give me a break. It took going into overtime to beat an extremely bad Arizona team for TCU. LSU against Arizona score, 59-10. Is that victory the one that makes TCU so high in the rankings? Or maybe it was Bowling Green's victory over Northern Illinois that was so impressive? I mean Northen Illinois beat up a down Alabama team after all so they MUST be a contender. Lets look at Georgia for instance. They beat the ever living crap out of Tennessee at Tennessee. They have the same amount of losses, but are ranked an average of 6.17 lower by the computers than Tennessee. How in the hell is that logical? Sure they didnt beat Miami, but Hey they beat Clemson who beat Florida State. Speaking of which how in the hell is USC getting -0.2 in Quality win points for beating the #10 team Washington State, but LSU only getting -0.1 for beating the #9 team, Georgia? That has to be a mistake or something. I want to know how these computers come up with their rankings.
